Job description

Role: Business Applications Developer
Location: Perth CBD
Employment Type: Fulltime Permanent - Monday to Friday

As a Business Application Developer, you'll work across the business to identify challenges, design practical solutions and deliver software that makes a real difference. Rather than maintaining a single product, you'll have the opportunity to build a wide variety of solutions that improve the way people work every day.

Working closely with operational teams, finance, maintenance, HR and business leaders, you'll turn ideas into practical technology that increases efficiency, reduces manual effort and solves real business problems.

Projects you'll work on may include:

  • Internal web applications
  • Mobile applications
  • Python automation scripts
  • AI-powered assistants and workflows
  • Dashboards and reporting tools
  • Data integrations
  • Process automation
  • Small utilities that eliminate repetitive manual work

No two weeks will look the same. One week you might build an AI assistant that helps maintenance planners, and the next you could develop a mobile inspection app or automate a finance workflow.

This role is ideal for someone with 2-5 years of software development experience who enjoys variety, continuous learning and seeing the direct impact of their work. The focus isn't writing code for the sake of writing code - it's delivering practical solutions that create real business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with stakeholders across the business to understand operational challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate business requirements into well-designed software solutions.
  • Design, build and maintain internal web applications, mobile applications and automation tools.
  • Develop Python applications and services that automate manual processes and improve efficiency.
  • Build AI-powered solutions using modern LLMs and AI development tools.
  • Develop integrations between business systems using APIs, databases and cloud services.
  • Create dashboards, reports and data visualisations that support operational decision-making.
  • Prototype ideas quickly and iterate based on user feedback.
  • Produce clean, maintainable and well-documented code.
  • Work closely with the wider IT and data teams to ensure solutions are scalable and reliable.
  • Support, maintain and continuously improve existing internal applications.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • 2–5 years of software development experience.
  • Strong Python development skills.
  • Experience building web applications using modern frameworks.
  • Experience working with SQL databases.
  • Understanding of REST APIs and system integrations.
  • Comfortable gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a practical mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple small-to-medium projects simultaneously.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies.

Highly Regarded

  • Experience building mobile applications.
  • Experience with AI development, including OpenAI or similar LLM platforms.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or Claude.
  • Experience with automation platforms and workflow orchestration.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 integrations.
  • Experience with Power BI, Metabase or similar reporting platforms.
  • Knowledge of Git and modern software development practices.
  • Exposure to logistics, mining, transport or industrial operations.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12 months you will have:

  • Delivered multiple applications that are actively used across the business.
  • Eliminated hours of repetitive manual work through automation.
  • Built trusted relationships with business stakeholders.
  • Introduced AI solutions that improve productivity.
  • Helped establish modern software development practices for internal applications.
  • Become the first person teams think of when they have a process that could be improved.

Who You Are

  • You're someone who enjoys solving problems more than writing code.
  • You ask lots of questions before building anything.
  • You like understanding how businesses work and finding simpler ways of doing things.
  • You're comfortable using AI as part of your daily workflow and are excited by how quickly software development is changing.
  • You enjoy taking an idea from a conversation all the way through to a working application that people genuinely use.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or similar (preferred but not essential).
  • Equivalent commercial experience will be equally valued.

What's on Offer

  • Brand new CBD office in a modern building, just 500m from Elizabeth Quay Train Station and Bus Port.
  • Free gym and pool access, plus high-quality end-of-trip facilities.
  • A professional, values-driven team environment working alongside experienced leaders.
  • Strong stability and genuine long-term growth opportunities as the business expands.
