Job description

The Controllership Manager role is a key role within the accounting and finance organisation and will work closely with the UK&I Head of Internal Reporting, the Europe & India Financial Controller and the Europe & India FP & A Director. As part of a dynamic team, you will support with the month end close process for UK & I DCS entities, reconciling actual results from MMR to FCCS post month end, with other quarterly and ad hoc reporting to Corporate, and with a range of other ad hoc activities that arise on a day to day basis. You will also support with addressing audit related queries from our external auditors where necessary.

You will interact with the wider Europe & India finance team including Ops finance, S2P, O2C and FP & A, business leaders, corporate executives, internal and external audit teams and outside professional advisors. The role will operate across all AECOM divisions, supporting in ensuring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting information, the management of our legal entity structure, and in optimising this structure to support key business objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading general ledger accounting and managing/ supporting the Head of internal Reporting with the month end close process for our UK & I DCS structure
  • Working closely with our offshore Global Business Services (GBS) teams in Manila, Bucharest and Bangalore to resolve accounting issues, to drive month end close activities to ensure they are completed accurately and in accordance with internal timelines, and to create efficiencies in processes where possible
  • Leading on the reconciliation of FCCS actual results (GSR, NSR, EBITA, OCF etc.) to MMR on a monthly basis for all countries across Europe
  • Leading on other quarterly and ad hoc reporting to Corporate including variance analysis for UK&I
  • Supporting the provision of timely, accurate and relevant financial reporting and accounting support to the Europe & India business
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external finance colleagues, business partners, advisors and key business leaders to support, optimise, explain and manage the financial structures in place to support the business
  • Working closely with the Head of FP & A on issues arising during the month
  • Ensuring our internal control environment is strong and compliant with public company requirements and AECOM policies, including supporting the internal audit process throughout the period to ensure that as a firm our internal control environment is strong and compliant with public company requirements and AECOM policies
  • To be a valuable team member within the UK & I Controllership team and assisting in the coaching and mentoring of other team members to achieve best in class performance
  • Supporting the UK & I external audit process and helping to address audit queries where necessary
  • Participating in special projects and ad hoc requests where possible (e.g. corporate restructurings and significant/ unusual transactions)
  • Supporting the implementation of new UK/ US GAAP accounting standards and corporate accounting policies across the Europe and India region in conjunction with Global Accounting team, where possible
  • Supporting and driving strategic initiatives to drive efficiencies from the Finance organisation that comply with regulations and, where possible, centralise and use existing shared service centres
  • Work with Tax, Treasury and legal to ensure that all tax, treasury and finance matters are compliant and optimised

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
  • Chartered Accountancy Qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or similar)
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Extensive experience in accounting and reporting
  • Must be pro-active and demonstrate ability to see things through to the end
  • Ability to be resourceful, hands on and work both independently and as part of high-performing team
  • Ability to manage the detail but also understand the “bigger picture”
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present to senior leaders within the business
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be motivated, work independently as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to work with multiple different colleagues across different geographical regions, on a variety of initiatives
  • Strong accounting knowledge and knowledge in financial reporting
  • Ability to think creatively, analyze and solve problems
  • Professional, and works with integrity

Preferred skills and experiences:

  • Engineering & Construction, project management, contract accounting experience preferred
  • Experience of accounts production software / Shared Service environment preferred
  • US GAAP and multi-national company experience preferred
