Description

Job Summary / Purpose

Operates and insures correct, effective operation of statio nary engines, steam boilers and accessories, central chilled water plant, building management s ystems and mechanical equipment to provide services to the hospital.

Essential Key J ob Responsibilities

Operates, adjusts, and regulates steam boilers, compressor s, generators, pumps, chillers, cooling towers and building management systems.

Observes steam-flow meters, carbon dioxide meters, press ure and draft gauges and adjust v alves to attain reading within specified requirements.

Periodically records readings in the logbook.

Removes and tests water to determ ine hardness. Conducts other chemical checks on water and adjusts chemicals as need ed.

Is responsible for oiling and greasing moving mecha nisms, maintaining proper water condition in boilers and cleaning boilers.

Observes state and local regulations such as periodi cally shutting down boilers and inspecting interiors for scale deposits.

Detects warning signals and machinery malfunctions by sound.

Has responsibility for the functioning of the emergency generators and their periodic testing.

Clears and resents the Pneumatic tube system as requested while maintaining the plant in a clean and orderly condition

May be required to work at any Mercy facilities

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general e ducation degree (GED), required
  • Sp ecialized or technical training
  • Two years expe rience in a power plant setting

Required Licensure and Certifications

Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse trainin g for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Considerable knowledge of the processed and techniques of boiler operation and generating equipment
  • Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area
  • Computer/ data entry knowledge
