Job Description

Job Title: Production Shift Coordinator (Night Shift)

Location: Fremont, NE (Royal Canin)

Shift: Nights (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Are you a highly versatile technical leader looking for a dynamic night-shift role with a global industry leader? Royal Canin is seeking a Production Shift Coordinator to join our state-of-the-art facility in Fremont, Nebraska.

In this critical role, you will serve as a senior technical operator and the key back-up to the Shift Manager. You will provide essential direction, scheduling, and leadership to multiple process areas (packaging, receiving, processing, and sanitation), often acting as the primary coordinator on shift when the supervisor is absent. You will ensure our lines run safely, efficiently, and at peak reliability while directly supporting inventory, logistics, and preventative maintenance systems.

Why Transitioning Military & Veterans Thrive Here

At Mars, we recognize that the versatility, leadership, and crisis-management capabilities developed in the military are world-class assets.

  • Direct Crossover: Coordinating multi-craft teams, filling in across different departments, and taking command when the supervisor is off-duty are the exact operational skills developed by military Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Crew Chiefs.
  • Structured & Clear: The strict safety standards (such as LOTO), quality control audits, and structured shifts at Royal Canin align perfectly with military operational environments.
  • Career Progression: Through Mars University, we provide clear pathways to help transitioning service members upskill into formal managerial positions.

What We Offer (Total Rewards & Benefits)

At Mars, we invest in our leaders with a premier compensation and benefits package starting on your very first day:

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance starting on Day One.
  • Financial Peace of Mind: Competitive base salary, night-shift premium, and annual variable bonus earning potential.
  • Retirement Planning: An exceptional company match of up to 6% on your 401(k).
  • Generous Paid Time Off: Immediately eligible (based on hire date) for up to three weeks of paid vacation, 12 Paid Holidays, and accrued Sick Pay.
  • Unbeatable Family Support: Up to 18 weeks of paid Parental/Maternity Leave and tuition reimbursement programs.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Shift Coordination

  • Provide front-line technical leadership, scheduling coordination, and shift direction across multiple processing departments, serving as the designated backup when the Shift Manager is absent.
  • Step into any departmental role as needed—including sanitation lead, receiving lead, packaging lead, or processing lead—to maintain production flow.
  • Review production schedules, receive/audit maintenance work requests, and partner with reliability teams to coordinate SAP work orders.
  • Prepare purchase orders and generate or update Bills of Materials (BOM) when required.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Foster a safe work environment by model-operating equipment and actively enforcing safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance, and GMP/GHP guidelines.
  • Lead quality control processes, perform standard quality checks, and make critical quality decisions regarding non-compliant products in accordance with Mars specifications.
  • Document shift performance, maintain detailed logbooks, and record accurate production, waste, and quality control metrics.

Mechanical Troubleshooting & Material Flow

  • Assess equipment operating reliability, perform routine repairs and mechanical adjustments, and partner with Maintenance to complete preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including a forklift and shag truck, to support inventory control and warehouse logistics.

Position Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR equivalent military technical and operational experience.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work night shifts (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM), including rotations, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required to support 24/7 operations.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving capabilities.
  • Interpersonal Skills: High level of communication and team-building skills with a positive, collaborative attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in a food production, FMCG, or highly regulated manufacturing plant.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP) and inventory control principles.
  • Forklift certification (Mars will provide full on-site training and licensing).

Military & Veteran Leadership & Technical Equivalency Guide

At Mars, we highly value your multi-skilled background and operational agility. If you served in any of the following specialties (particularly in junior NCO, Section Leader, or Crew Chief roles), your background is an exceptional fit:

  • U.S. Army: Wheeled/Track Vehicle Repairer Team Leader (91B/91H), Motor Transport Operator / Squad Leader (88M), Automated Logistical Specialist (92A), Unit Supply Specialist (92Y). Your experience stepping up to lead platoon operations and managing maintenance schedules is a direct match.
