Job description

We are working closely with Sefton MBC to assist with the appointment of a Family Support Worker , on a 3 -months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary

The Family Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting children, young people, and families to achieve positive outcomes by providing practical, emotional, and social support. Working as part of Children's Social Care, the postholder contributes to assessments, care planning, and the delivery of child-centred interventions that promote safety, wellbeing, resilience, and independence. The role involves working directly with children and families in their homes and communities, supporting the implementation of Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children plans, identifying safeguarding concerns, managing risk, and collaborating with social workers and partner agencies. The Family Support Worker maintains accurate records, supports family-led planning, and ensures services are delivered in accordance with legislation, council policies, and safeguarding procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, emotional, and social support to children and young people aged 0–25 and their families to improve outcomes and promote wellbeing.
  • Deliver direct support within family homes, schools, and community settings in accordance with Child in Need, Child Protection, Early Help, and Looked After Children care plans.
  • Identify, monitor, and report safeguarding concerns, risks, and unmet needs promptly through established safeguarding procedures.
  • Assist families with immediate practical needs including food, shopping, fuel, accommodation, and access to essential services.
  • Support qualified social workers during Child Protection investigations, including Section 47 enquiries and immediate safeguarding interventions.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Health & Social Care, Children & Young People, Early Years, Family Support, Youth Work, or a related discipline, or willingness to work towards an appropriate qualification.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.

Essentials

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families within social care, education, youth work, early help, family support, residential care, or community services.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable children and families with a range of complex needs.
