Senior Quality Engineer
Job description
Job Summary
Quality Engineer with strong expertise in test automation for retail systems—particularly Point of Sale (POS) and LS Central / Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC). You will design, implement, and scale automated testing across our retail ecosystem (store POS, back office, integrations, and reports), reduce UAT duration and defects in production, and improve release confidence—especially during new store openings and system upgrades.
Duties and Responsibilities
Test Automation Strategy & Execution
- Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites covering POS, retail BAU processes, inventory, pricing/promotions, tender/loyalty, receipts, end-of-day, store/server failover, and back-office LS BC workflows.
- Integrate LS Central/Microsoft Business Central with test automation tools (e.g., via APIs, OData, web services, UI automation, or test harnesses) to support end-to-end scenarios.
- Select and justify the most suitable test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Playwright/Selenium/Cypress for UI, Postman/REST Assured for APIs, Robot Framework for keyword-driven suites, Power Automate for light RPA, Azure DevOps Pipelines/GitHub Actions for CI).
- Build data-driven test cases and reusable libraries for master data (items, barcode variants, prices, tenders, customers) and test environments.
- Translate retail department processes (Store Ops, Finance, Supply Chain, etc.) into maintainable test scripts with clear pass/fail outputs and evidence (logs/screenshots/recordings).
- Deep-dive into the LS Central/BC ecosystem to propose test enhancements (e.g., mocks/stubs for EFT/Payment gateways, scheduler/job queue coverage, posting routines, integrations to loyalty/ERP/WMS).
- Build/maintain smoke, regression, and performance suites tailored to new store openings, multiple POS lanes, and server/replication scenarios (cloud and on-prem).
- Develop UAT accelerators (automated scripts, test data packs, reusable scenarios) that shorten UAT cycles without compromising coverage.
- Provide testing support during UAT and project cutovers (store openings, upgrades, seasonal promotions), including after-hours or weekend support when required. Reporting, Governance & CI/CD Produce regular regression reports with quantitative results (e.g., pass rate %, failed test counts by feature, mean time to repair, defect leakage, coverage %).
- Define and track KPIs and present trends to IT and business stakeholders in clear, actionable summaries.
- Version control test assets (Git), enforce branching and code review practices, and integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub).
- Collaborate with vendors to align on non-billable test evidence collection where feasible (e.g., screen recordings) and ensure complete deployment documentation.
- Goal: Shorten the time it takes to release new features or open new stores.
- UAT Cycle Time Reduction: % reduction in the duration of the User Acceptance Testing phase for new store openings. o Target: 30-50% faster UAT compared to manual testing baseline.
- Test Execution Velocity: Average time taken to run a full regression suite for a system upgrade. o Target: Completion of a full retail regression (POS to Back-office) within < 4 hours.
- Automated Release Readiness: Time saved in "Go/No-Go" decision-making during system patches or LS Central updates. Quality Engineer (Retail Automation)
- Goal: Ensure that automated tests actually catch bugs before they hit the stores.
- Defect Leakage Rate: Percentage of bugs found in production (at the POS/Store level) that should have been caught by the automated test suite. o Target: < 5% leakage.
- Automated Test Pass Rate: Maintaining a high percentage of successful test runs in the CI/CD pipeline. o Target: > 95% (excluding known environment issues). Automation Coverage & Depth Goal: Expand the reach of automation into complex LS Central processes.
- Retail Process Coverage: Percentage of critical Business-As-Usual (BAU) processes (e.g., Member GCs, Z-Reads, Multi-buy Promos, Stock Transfers) covered by automation. o Target: 80% of "High Priority" retail workflows.
- API & Integration Coverage: Number of LS Central OData/Web Service endpoints integrated into the automated test harness.
- Environment Parity: Successful execution of tests across both Cloud (Production-like) and On Prem (Store-server) simulations.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience automating tests for retail systems, including POS and retail BAU processes (transactions, memberships, returns/exchanges, vouchers and GCs, price changes, promotions, Z-read, cash management).
- Demonstrated experience integrating LS Central / Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central into automated testing (UI, APIs, OData, Web Services, job queues).
- Proven ability to evaluate and select appropriate test tools (UI, API, performance, data generation) and architect scalable test frameworks.
- Strong skills in translating business processes into comprehensive test cases and automated scripts with clear success/failure criteria.
- Experience reporting regression results in numbers and visualization (e.g. dashboards, pivot charts) for non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on experience with UAT support during projects or system upgrades.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#) and Git workflows.
- Knowledge of performance and reliability testing (load test POS API endpoints, simulate peak sales volumes).
- Background in RPA for operational test workflows (e.g., Power Automate). Quality Engineer (Retail Automation)
- Experience with LS Retail/Business Central development, EFT/payment integrations, receipt printers, barcode scanners, and hardware peripherals in test environments.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, TestRail, Xray, or similar test management tools.
- Experience with observability (application logs, telemetry, App Insights) and using them to improve test diagnostics.
- ISTQB or similar testing certification.
- Excellent communication: able to convey results and risks in clear numbers and visuals to IT and business stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and curiosity to dive deep into the LS BC ecosystem and propose meaningful test improvements.
- Ownership and bias for action, especially during UAT and cutover windows.
- Collaborative mindset with Store Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and Vendors.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
