Head of Clinical Operations - Private Investment Firm
Job description
AlediumHR has been retained by an innovative, rapidly growing private investment firm and healthcare accelerator currently operating four clinic locations across California to identify its new Head of Clinical Operations. This is a new role reporting directly to the owners. Could grow into COO.
Preferred: Midwest-based candidates are preferred for travel convenience, although exceptional candidates from anywhere in the United States will be considered.
Travel: Up to 75%
This is a unique opportunity to join a high-growth, entrepreneurial healthcare company at a pivotal stage of its evolution. Reporting directly to the ownership team, the Head of Clinical Operations will serve as the senior operational executive responsible for building the infrastructure, systems, accountability, and operational excellence necessary to scale the organization.
This is not a traditional corporate executive position. We are looking for a builder, a leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment where decisions are made quickly, bureaucracy is minimal, and success is measured by results. The ideal candidate is energized by solving complex operational challenges, building scalable systems, and rolling up their sleeves to help grow the business.
If you're looking for a highly structured corporate environment with established departments and layers of support, this is probably not the right opportunity. If you want to help build something exceptional while working side-by-side with the founders, this role offers tremendous long-term growth potential.
Position Summary
The Head of Clinical Operations will oversee all operational aspects of four California clinics while partnering closely with the organization's Medical Directors and ownership team. This executive will establish operational consistency across all locations, improve financial and operational performance, strengthen compliance programs, and develop the infrastructure necessary to support future expansion.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional business judgment, strong financial acumen, outstanding analytical capabilities, and the leadership skills necessary to build high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for all clinic operations across four California locations
- Partner directly with ownership to execute the company's long-term growth strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop approximately 15 clinic operations and support personnel
- Build scalable operational infrastructure to support future clinic expansion
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve standardized operating procedures across all locations
- Partner closely with Medical Directors to align clinical excellence with operational performance
- Develop executive dashboards, KPIs, operational metrics, and financial reporting tools
- Drive accountability through data-driven performance management
- Oversee budgeting, staffing models, workforce planning, and operational efficiency
- Ensure compliance with all HIPAA, DEA, OSHA, and California regulatory requirements
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs
- Maintain an exceptional concierge-level patient experience throughout the organization
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, patient satisfaction, and organizational performance
- Serve as a strategic advisor to ownership on operational initiatives, growth opportunities, and business performance
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive healthcare operations leadership, including start-ups and/or early-stage companies.
- 10+ years leading and developing high-performing teams
- Minimum of 5 years overseeing multi-site outpatient healthcare operations
- Demonstrated experience partnering with physician leaders and Medical Directors
- Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and operational analytics experience
- Proven experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and executive reporting
- Direct experience leading HIPAA compliance initiatives
- Experience overseeing DEA-controlled substance compliance
- Outstanding leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to build systems, solve operational problems, and drive organizational accountability
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Business Analytics, or another quantitative discipline
- MBA from a top-tier or highly regarded university strongly preferred
- Background in specialty healthcare, behavioral health, psychiatry, concierge medicine, or outpatient healthcare

The Executive We're Looking For
This role requires an executive with exceptional logic, analytical ability, business judgment, and emotional intelligence. You are naturally curious, data-driven, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment where every day presents new challenges.
You know how to build structure where none exists, create accountability without creating bureaucracy, and inspire teams to embrace continuous improvement.
Most importantly, you're the type of leader who understands that startups require commitment. There will be times when long hours, frequent travel, and hands-on leadership are necessary to accomplish the mission. You don't view that as a burden; you view it as part of building something meaningful.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on an organization while creating significant personal and professional growth as the company continues to expand.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is open and will be structured to attract an exceptional executive. The ownership team recognizes the importance of securing the right leader and is prepared to offer a highly competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, leadership capabilities, and overall executive value.
A comprehensive benefits package is also provided.
If you are an entrepreneurial healthcare operations executive who enjoys building organizations, leading high-performing teams, and working directly with founders to create long-term value, we encourage you to apply.
Confidential inquiries are welcomed.
