Description
Build a career with impact. Working at the World Bank Group (WBG) provides a unique opportunity to help countries solve their greatest development challenges. As one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries, the WBG is a unique partnership of five global institutions dedicated to ending poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. With 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, the WBG works with public and private sector partners, investing in groundbreaking projects and using data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges.
The Africa Gender Innovation Lab, which sits within the People Vertical of the World Bank's AFE and AFW regions, conducts impact evaluations and other rigorous research in Sub-Saharan Africa to generate evidence on how to close gender gaps in earnings, productivity, assets, and agency. With this evidence, the Africa GIL aims to support the design of innovative, scalable interventions to address gender inequality in the productive economic sectors across Africa. The impact objective of the Africa GIL is to increase take-up of effective policies by governments, development organizations, and the private sector to address the underlying causes of gender inequality in Africa, and through that, promote growth.
VPU Context: The Africa Gender Innovation Lab spans two regional units in the People Vertical, one in AFE and one in AFW, both working to increase take-up of effective policies that can address the underlying causes of gender inequality in Africa, particularly in terms of women's economic and social empowerment, and through that promote growth.

The AFW GIL carries this work forward in the AFW region, within the People Vertical. It aims to do this by strengthening knowledge, in particular, by producing and delivering a new body of evidence and developing a compelling narrative, geared towards policymakers, on what works and what does not work in promoting gender equality. The ETC will work within AFW and will provide budget and resource management support to the AFW GIL.
