ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Physical Therapy Chief I directs a small staff providing physical therapy services in treating patients with any physical or mental disease or injury and in training students in an autonomous acute or rehabilitation hospital. REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

EDUCATION & TRAINING:
  • Graduation from a physical therapy curriculum acceptable to the Commission on Accreditation on Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and approved by the Physical Therapy Board of California (PTBC) - OR - Successful completion in a Physical Therapy school or schools of a resident course of professional instruction equivalent to the educational standards approved by the Physical Therapy Board of California (PTBC).
EXPERIENCE:
  • Five (5) years of experience in the practice of physical therapy, performing physical therapy evaluations, treatment interventions, patient education, and consultation services, two (2) years of which must have been at the level of Physical Therapy Supervisor I** or higher.
LICENSE:
  • A license to practice as a Physical Therapist*** issued by by the Physical Therapy Board of California (PTBC).
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Withhold Information
No withhold will be allowed for this examination. Required education, experience, and licensure must be fully met at the time of filing and clearly indicated on the application. Only experience gained subsequent to graduation from a physical therapy curriculum acceptable to CAPTE and approved by PTBC, or equivalent, will be considered.

Physical Class
Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

DESIREABLE QUALIFICATION(S):
Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualification:
  • Experience managing physical therapy services in several treatment units or programs in an acute, rehabilitation or psychiatric hospital or clinic.

Experience at the level of Physical Therapy Supervisor I within the Los Angeles County is defined as: Provides first-level supervision to physical therapists, therapy assistants, and other support staff who are treating acute or rehabilitative patients with physical or mental disease or injury. Incumbents may also provide administrative supervision to staff in the physical and occupational therapy services in a California Children’s Services Medical Therapy Unit.
  • You may still qualify even if your job title isn’t exactly the same as the one listed. What matters is that your experience is at a similar level — meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure. EXAMINATION CONTENT:

Training & Experience (T&E) Evaluation
This assessment type will evaluate the education, training, experience, and desirable qualification(s) you list on your application and supplemental questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This assessment is worth 100% of your total score. Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment to be added to the list.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Department of Health Services as they occur.
