Who we need
Reporting to the Operations Manager, Organic Main Lab, we are hiring a Laboratory Analyst to join our Organic Main Instrument Laboratory in Mississauga on a six-month contract. As our new Laboratory Analyst, you will help ensure environmental samples are prepared, analyzed, and documented accurately to support timely reporting for our clients. This position focuses primarily on laboratory instrumentation, computer-based work, and data management. You will spend much of your day loading instruments, working within laboratory software, and maintaining an efficient workflow to ensure samples are ready for next-day testing.
This is a six- month contract position based in our Mississauga laboratory. The required schedule is Sunday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. to support critical laboratory operations.
What's in it for you
Develop specialized analytical laboratory experience. This is an opportunity to build your expertise in instrumental analysis within an accredited environmental laboratory. Whether you already have experience with instrumentation or are looking to expand beyond sample preparation, you will receive training that broadens your technical capabilities and prepares you for the next stage of your laboratory career.
Build your career with a global laboratory leader. Bureau Veritas is recognized worldwide for testing, inspection, and certification services. You will join a collaborative team committed to quality, continuous learning, and professional development while gaining experience with industry-leading laboratory practices, quality systems, and instrumentation.
Make an impact every day. Behind every environmental sample is an important decision. Your work will help ensure clients receive accurate, reliable results that support environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will contribute directly to the integrity of our laboratory services.
Grow your technical expertise. If you have experience in sample preparation or extraction, this role offers the opportunity to expand into instrumentation. You'll receive hands-on training while building skills that can support future career progression within Bureau Veritas' laboratory operations.
Potential for future opportunities. While this position is a six-month parental leave contract, strong performance and ongoing business needs may create future opportunities within Bureau Veritas.
How you will make an impact
- Prepare samples for analysis. You will review daily laboratory workloads, organize priorities, prepare samples, load laboratory instruments, and ensure analyses are completed accurately and within required turnaround times.
- Operate instrumentation and laboratory systems. You will work with analytical instrumentation, LIMS, Excel, and laboratory software to manage sample information, document results, and maintain efficient laboratory workflow. You will spend much of your day working within laboratory systems to support accurate analysis and reporting. Training will be provided on laboratory instrumentation where needed.
- Maintain quality standards. You will follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ISO 17025 requirements, and Bureau Veritas quality processes while identifying, documenting, and communicating any sample deviations or process concerns.
- Solve problems and support continuous improvement. You will monitor workstation performance, communicate delays or technical issues, assist with troubleshooting, and contribute ideas that improve laboratory efficiency and quality.
- Promote a safe laboratory environment. You will follow all Health & Safety policies, participate in required training and audits, maintain accurate training records, and ensure your work area remains clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory standards.
What you bring
- Laboratory experience. You have hands-on laboratory experience performing sample preparation, documentation, or analytical testing within a scientific environment. Experience in sample preparation or extraction is particularly valuable, as we will provide training on laboratory instrumentation. Experience in an environmental laboratory or with instrumentation is an asset but not required.
- Strong technical and computer skills. You are comfortable working with laboratory software, data entry systems, and Microsoft Excel. You enjoy working with technology and are confident in managing detailed information accurately within computer-based systems. You learn new systems quickly and understand the importance of accurate electronic documentation.
- Attention to detail. You recognize that small details matter in laboratory work. You consistently produce accurate work, follow procedures carefully, and maintain high quality standards under established timelines.
- Reliability and accountability. You are dependable, work well independently, and understand the importance of maintaining consistent attendance and supporting laboratory operations during the required afternoon shift.
