Job description

Akicita Federal is hiring Carpenters to support facility maintenance and improvement operations at the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas, TX. In this role, you will keep one of the region's premier veterans' healthcare campuses safe, functional, and well-maintained by performing a broad range of skilled carpentry work across hospital buildings and grounds.

  • Alter, install, and finish walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows throughout hospital facilities, ensuring all trim and finish work meets quality standards.
  • Construct new drywall partitions and other temporary wood-frame structures to support evolving facility needs.
  • Install and hang doors and windows, including mortising frames for lock strike plates and keepers.
  • Install acoustical ceilings and floor coverings of all types, including carpet, across various building spaces.
  • Build concrete formwork for exterior walks, road curbing, and steps.
  • Fabricate and install cabinetry, shelving, bulletin boards, blackboards, workbenches, and tables using materials such as Formica, laminate, and paneling.
  • Report daily to the on-site government representative, provide end-of-shift updates on tasks completed, parts used, and any items requiring further attention, and submit accurate daily timecards.

What sets candidates apart

  • Prior experience performing carpentry or skilled trades work in a healthcare, hospital, or other large institutional facility environment.
  • Familiarity with VA or federal government facility standards, safety protocols, or prior service supporting a Veterans Affairs medical center.
  • Experience working with a broad range of finish materials including Formica, laminate, paneling, and acoustical ceiling systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple task assignments simultaneously and adapt quickly to shifting daily priorities directed by facility management.
  • Experience completing detailed daily work logs, timecards, or maintenance reports as part of a structured service delivery environment.
