Paralegal II

Location: U.S. Attorney's Office – Middle District of Georgia

Duty Station: 300 Mulberry Street, Suite 400, Macon, GA 31202

Division: Civil and/or Criminal Division

Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM (based on office needs)

Travel: Occasional travel throughout the Middle District of Georgia and periodic travel for DOJ-related training may be required.

Position Summary

Crossroads Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Paralegal II to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Middle District of Georgia, within the Civil and/or Criminal Division. This position provides advanced litigation support to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by assisting with legal research, case preparation, drafting legal documents, discovery management, trial preparation, and court filing activities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation experience, exceptional legal writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously while maintaining strict confidentiality and meeting demanding deadlines in a high-volume federal legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Support

  • Draft pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, exhibits, and other legal documents for review by Assistant United States Attorneys.
  • Prepare finalized pleadings and supporting documentation for filing with the United States District Court.
  • Organize case materials for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation.

Discovery Management

  • Review, analyze, and summarize written discovery responses.
  • Evaluate document productions for completeness and relevance.
  • Prepare detailed discovery summaries and case analyses.
  • Organize documentary evidence and maintain litigation files.
  • Track production of evidence and discovery materials.

Legal Research

  • Conduct preliminary legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and other legal resources.
  • Research statutes, regulations, case law, procedural rules, and legal precedent.
  • Prepare legal research memoranda and summaries for attorney review.

Expert Witness Support

  • Assist with identifying and researching expert witnesses.
  • Review expert reports and discovery materials.
  • Summarize findings and prepare initial analyses for AUSAs.
  • Coordinate documentation related to expert testimony.

Case Management

  • Monitor litigation calendars and court deadlines.
  • Track discovery deadlines, scheduling orders, and court filing requirements.
  • Maintain organized legal files and electronic case records.
  • Ensure compliance with federal court rules and DOJ procedures.
  • Assist with case strategy meetings and attorney preparation.

Additional Duties

  • Support attorneys in both civil and criminal litigation matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive law enforcement and government information.
  • Perform other litigation support functions as assigned.
  • Assist with special legal projects in support of the USAO mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or a two-year degree with an additional Paralegal Certificate.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of paralegal experience.
  • Working knowledge of civil and/or criminal litigation procedures.
  • Experience using Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required DOJ Tier 4 Public Trust background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal litigation.
  • Knowledge of federal court filing procedures.
  • Experience preparing pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence.
  • Familiarity with PACER and electronic court filing systems.
  • Strong legal research and document analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven legal environment.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Experience supporting Assistant United States Attorneys or other government legal organizations.
