JOB OVERVIEW Job Title: Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner - General Surgery Job Type: Locum Tenens Location: New York Service Setting: Hospital Coverage Type: Surgical First Assist + Medical/Surgical Floor Coverage Coverage Period: September 28 – October 9, 2026, with ongoing coverage available Clinical Shift Schedule: Weekday Call: 7a – 5p or 3p – 11p Weekend Call: Friday 5p – Monday 7a PATIENT INFORMATION Patient Demographics: Adult patients Patient Acuity: Acutely ill medical and surgical patients Case Mix: General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and OB/GYN Patient Ratio: 1:10–15 FACILITY INFORMATION No. of Beds: 109 EMR System: Epic Medication Dispensing System: Pyxis Support Staff Available: Anesthesia, NP, LPN COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Rate: TBD Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Covered REQUIRED PROCEDURES Surgical First Assist Robotic Surgery General Surgery procedures Orthopedic procedures (preferred) OB/GYN procedures, including C-sections Hip fracture cases Cauterization Hemostasis Wound closure (sutures, staples, adhesives) Surgical suction, drainage, and irrigation Patient positioning and immobilization Medical/Surgical floor rounding Order management Progress notes Consults and discharges JOB REQUIREMENTS Licenses: Active New York license required Board: Board Certified Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and ATLS required Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent Surgical First Assist experience EMR: Epic experience required Other Qualifications: Robotics experience required; Orthopedic experience strongly preferred DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide Surgical First Assist coverage in the operating room Provide Medical/Surgical floor coverage Round on hospitalized patients Manage patient orders, consults, and discharges Assist with General Surgery, Orthopedic, and OB/GYN cases Participate in weekend and weekday call coverage Document patient care accurately in Epic Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams
