An exceptional leadership opportunity is available for an experienced perioperative services leader to join one of the region's premier acute care hospitals as Director of Surgical Services . This executive leadership position oversees one of the busiest and most complex surgical programs in the Southwest, providing strategic direction for a large multidisciplinary team while driving operational excellence, clinical quality, and outstanding patient outcomes.

Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Surgical Services and Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Surgical Services provides strategic and operational leadership for a comprehensive perioperative division supporting a broad range of complex surgical specialties.
This leader will oversee all aspects of perioperative operations, including staffing, quality, financial performance, regulatory compliance, physician collaboration, and continuous process improvement while ensuring exceptional patient care and operational efficiency.
Scope of Responsibility
- Leadership oversight for:
- Operating Room (OR)
- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Endoscopy
- Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
- Anesthesia Technicians
- Environmental Services supporting Surgical Services
- Direct leadership of 3 department managers
- Oversight of approximately 167 full-time employees
- Responsible for one of the busiest surgical programs in the region
Surgical Program Highlights
- 23 state-of-the-art operating rooms
- More than 18,000 surgical procedures performed annually
- Average daily surgical volume of 60–80 cases
- Comprehensive adult and pediatric surgical services
- Highly specialized cardiovascular and congenital heart surgery programs
- Advanced orthopedic, neurosurgical, trauma, burn, and urology services
- High-volume emergency surgery program, with approximately 45% of surgical cases originating through the Emergency Department
- Industry-leading regional outreach program supporting more than 30 patient transfers daily from surrounding communities
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for all perioperative services
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives to improve quality, patient safety, operational efficiency, and financial performance
- Lead and mentor department managers while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and clinical excellence
- Partner with surgeons, anesthesia providers, physicians, and executive leadership to optimize surgical operations
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards
- Oversee departmental budgeting, productivity, staffing, and resource management
- Drive patient throughput, operating room utilization, and performance improvement initiatives
- Support physician satisfaction and collaborative interdisciplinary relationships
- Promote staff development, succession planning, and leadership growth throughout the department
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current Director-level leadership experience in Surgical Services
- Extensive Operating Room (OR) clinical experience
- Proven success leading large perioperative teams within an acute care hospital
- Strong operational, financial, and strategic leadership skills
