Job description
Overview The Commissioning Field Technician is responsible for supporting the commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and verification of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems. This highly mobile position requires frequent travel to project sites and customer locations to ensure systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable safety standards. Location & Travel Details You’ll get the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build infrastructure projects. This is a traveling position, requiring travel up to 100% of the time. You may support projects located in various states throughout the US. Potential project locations may include, but are not limited to, PA, KS, NC, SC, VA, GA, TX, FL, IA, WY, and additional locations are added frequently as our organization continues to grow. Responsibilities System Walkdowns and Inspections Perform system walkdowns and inspections to verify equipment installation and readiness for commissioning activities. Provide oversight and support to owners and project teams to ensure contractors comply with project specifications and documentation requirements. Identify and document installation deficiencies, punch list items, and corrective actions. Equipment Testing and Startup Conduct functional, operational, and performance testing of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and automation/control systems. Perform testing of AC/DC electrical circuits, equipment, and associated systems prior to energization. Verify proper operation of equipment and systems in accordance with design requirements and manufacturer recommendations. Support system startup, energization, and turnover activities. System Verification and Calibration Perform equipment calibration and system verification activities. Assist in tuning system performance to achieve design intent and operational requirements. Validate equipment settings, controls, and system functionality. Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during testing and commissioning activities. Documentation and Compliance Complete pre-startup and post-startup checklists, commissioning reports, test records, and turnover documentation. Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing activities, deficiencies, and corrective actions. Verify installations comply with project specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, and safety requirements. Ensure commissioning documentation is complete and submitted in accordance with project requirements. Field Support and Coordination Support contractors, engineering teams, and project personnel during installation, testing, and startup activities. Assist with owner and operations personnel training on commissioned systems. Coordinate and oversee third-party testing activities as required. Participate in project meetings and communicate commissioning progress, issues, and resolutions to stakeholders. Safety Strictly adhere to all company, client, and site-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements. Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and established safety protocols during all commissioning activities. Identify and communicate potential safety hazards and operational risks. Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and toolbox talks. Qualifications EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED required. Technical or vocational training, Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related field preferred.5+ years of experience in testing and commissioning projects. Experience in commissioning, startup, electrical, mechanical, industrial, construction, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing, or related environments preferred. Experience supporting testing, troubleshooting, and startup of industrial systems and equipment is highly desirable.
