Senior Engineer, Manufacturing Equipment
Job description
The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is responsible for ensuring equipment performance, reliability, and continuous improvement across the manufacturing floor. This role owns the full lifecycle of equipment health — from preventive maintenance (PM) oversight and troubleshooting to improvement projects, cost and spare parts management, vendor coordination, and safety compliance. The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer leads and develops technician capability through structured training, technical guidance, and performance coaching, while ensuring all improvement activities are thoroughly documented and sustained. The scope of responsibility and degree of independence increases progressively from Engineer through to Principal Engineer level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Equipment Performance & PM Oversight — Monitor and drive equipment performance metrics. Plan, review, and continuously improve Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs to maximize uptime and ensure PM quality and completion rate targets are met.
- Improvement & Troubleshooting — Lead equipment improvement projects using structured methodologies to resolve chronic failures and improve reliability. Provide technical directions to technicians on complex troubleshooting and implement sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Technician Leadership & Training — Lead, guide, and develop technicians through structured on-the-job training, technical coaching, and competency assessments, fostering a high-performance maintenance culture.
- Documentation — Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive equipment documentation including PM procedures, work instructions, engineering change records, and improvement reports to reflect current best practices and sustain improvements achieved.
- Spare Parts & Vendor Management — Manage spare parts inventory strategy including critical spare identification, stock level optimization, and cost control. Coordinate with equipment vendors and suppliers for technical support, spare parts procurement, equipment upgrades, and service contracts.
- Safety & Equipment Qualification — Drive safety compliance and risk assessments for all equipment-related activities. Support new equipment installation, qualification, and start-up to ensure tools meet performance and quality specifications before production release.
- Collaboration & Reporting — Collaborate with process, quality, and production teams to investigate equipment-related yield loss or quality escapes and implement corrective actions. Prepare and present periodic equipment performance reports and improvement updates to management with data-driven insights and defined action plans.
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic systems, and manufacturing equipment principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
PREFERRED:
- Experience in manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of PLC, programming, and automation systems, combined with exposure to digitalization and Industry 4.0 practices such as IoT-based equipment monitoring, data analytics, or dashboard development is an advantage.
