Job description
Accountabilities: The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading electrical engineering design activities, managing project deliverables, and ensuring high-quality solutions for institutional projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Design electrical building systems including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, telecommunications, and security systems.
- Develop electrical engineering calculations and support technical decision-making throughout project lifecycles.
- Prepare detailed construction documents and design deliverables using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Create lighting system designs, calculations, and associated control strategies.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Lead project teams and coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines.
- Manage project requirements, schedules, and technical deliverables.
- Coordinate directly with owners, architects, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
- Conduct code compliance research and ensure designs meet applicable standards and regulations.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers.
- Assist with business development activities, including client relationship management and pursuit of new opportunities.
- Apply engineering software tools and industry best practices to develop efficient, reliable designs.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical engineering professional with a strong background in building systems design, project leadership, and technical coordination. The successful candidate will bring expertise in electrical design principles, engineering software, and industry standards, along with strong communication and leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible post-degree experience in electrical engineering design or a related occupation.
- Experience designing electrical systems for institutional projects such as healthcare, higher education, or government facilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of lighting, power, fire alarm, telecommunications, and security system design.
- Experience creating construction documentation and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience using electrical calculation software applications to support and validate engineering decisions.
- Experience with Bluebeam and Newforma preferred.
- Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to lead project teams and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
