Project
We are seeking a Research Scientist specializing in power system stability and reliability to support the development of next-generation grid technologies. You will become part of an innovative and multidisciplinary R&D team, working on advanced solutions that help shape the future of sustainable energy systems. In this role, you will bridge scientific research with practical engineering, developing, testing, and validating technologies that support the global energy transition.
What you will be doing
- Lead and contribute to research and development initiatives focused on building mathematical models and simulation frameworks for assessing the reliability and stability of modern power systems with increasing levels of renewable and distributed energy resources.
- Work closely with international teams of researchers and engineers to address complex real-world challenges through advanced modeling, simulation, and analytical methods.
- Generate and evaluate innovative ideas for the design, execution, and application of numerical simulations, transforming promising concepts into validated prototypes with business value.
- Explore and develop solutions that combine physical and mathematical power system models with emerging technologies such as optimization methods, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.
- Apply a multidisciplinary approach to simulation studies, utilizing industry-standard tools while also developing and implementing new simulation algorithms and methodologies.
- Act as a subject matter expert within the organization, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices across teams and functions.
- Cooperate with external stakeholders, including universities, research institutions, open-source communities, technology vendors, and startup ecosystems.
- Present and disseminate research results through technical reports, scientific publications, conference contributions, and intellectual property activities.
Expected competences
- PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Hands-on experience in developing mathematical and analytical models for electrical power systems.
- Proven background in designing, executing, and evaluating numerical simulations for power system studies.
- Practical experience with power system modeling and simulation platforms such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ATP, MATLAB/Simulink, or comparable tools.
- Programming skills extending beyond Python, for example in C++, C#, Java, Rust, or similar languages.
- Track record of collaborative work, innovation, and the ability to contribute strategically within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, research excellence, and professional growth.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
In addition, the following skills would be beneficial for the role:
- Experience applying Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence techniques in combination with simulation-driven engineering and analysis.
- Knowledge of High Performance Computing (HPC) environments and performance optimization techniques for computationally intensive simulations.
- Experience using mathematical power system models for optimization, decision-making, or advanced control applications.
- Broader software engineering expertise, including areas such as architecture, testing, development practices, or system design.
