Job description

Timmons Group is currently seeking an experienced Learning Consultant to join our Richmond, VA office.  The Learning Consultant is responsible for designing, delivering, and enabling high-quality learning solutions that build employee capability, support performance, and align with business priorities. This role blends instructional design, LMS support, and performance consulting to create scalable, impactful learning experiences across the employee lifecycle—from onboarding through leadership development.

The role partners closely with business leaders, subject matter experts, HR partners, and cross-functional teams to identify development needs, design solutions, and measure effectiveness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

       Learning Design & Development

  • Design and develop a range of learning solutions (eLearning, instructor-led training, virtual programs, job aids, toolkits, and blended learning experiences).
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to create engaging, effective learning experiences.
  • Conduct needs analyses to identify skill gaps and recommend appropriate learning strategies.
  • Develop content from concept through delivery, including objectives, storyboards, materials, and assessments.

Performance Consulting & Stakeholder Support

  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders to understand business needs, define success measures, and recommend targeted learning solutions.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance to real-world work environments.
  • Provide tools and guidance to managers and facilitators to support employee development and program delivery.

Learning Technology & LMS Administration

  • Support the Learning Management System (LMS), including course setup, curriculum management, and learner support.
  • Maintain course catalogs, learning pathways, and program structures to ensure high-quality user experience.
  • Package and deploy learning programs through the LMS and track engagement and completion.
  • Use learner feedback and performance data to continuously improve programs.
  • Apply evaluation methods to measure learning impact and recommend enhancements.
  • Stay current on trends in learning and development to continuously elevate programs and tools.

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning program development, or related L&D roles.
  • Experience designing and developing eLearning and blended learning programs using authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360).
  • Experience working with an LMS (e.g., Workday Learning) including administration and reporting preferred.
  • Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Instructional design expertise and strong understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into action.
  • Strong collaboration, consulting, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with curiosity for new tools and approaches.

Compensation: Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $85,000-$105,000. Offers are based on a range of job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials and role complexity.
