Join our team at Schwartz Farms, Inc. in Minneapolis, KS, where your passion for supporting teams meets an exciting career! As a Dietary Services & Housekeeping professional, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for the Smoky Hills team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position shall be responsible for the following:

Administrative

  • Maintain inventory and ensure timely ordering of supplies, including but not limited to:
  • Production needs, such as uniforms, footwear, undergarments, etc.
  • Office needs, such as paper, pens, markers, notebooks, first aid kits, etc.
  • Kitchen needs, such as plates, bowls, cups, utensils, condiments, food products, dish soap, etc.
  • Biosecurity needs, such as shower supplies, shower curtains, shampoo & conditioner, booties, wipes, etc.
  • Cleaning supplies, such as disinfectants, household cleaners, brooms, mops, vacuums, etc.
  • IT needs, such as computers, printers, scanners, etc.
  • Coordinate with Safety Coordinator, Warehouse Manager and Helpdesk to optimize pricing and supply, as appropriate
  • Confirm availability of items and conduct inventory of required items
  • Identify obsolete production, and arrange for proper removal or disposal
  • May assist with production data entry & recordkeeping

Housekeeping

  • Perform general cleaning and sanitizing tasks and services, particularly in entry area, shower rooms, kitchen and dining areas, offices, and boot room
  • Clean and disinfect kitchen and dining areas
  • Wash dishes, utensils, glasses, pots, and pans
  • Wipe and dust surfaces in rooms
  • Vacuum and clean floors, rugs, furniture, and windows
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms
  • Stock towels, washcloths, and hand towels in bathrooms
  • Pick up and empty trash containers
  • Sort, wash, dry, fold and organize daily laundry
  • Notify maintenance if something is not working properly

Food Service

  • Draft and implement operating budget; perform reasonable predictive forecasting of expected meal service based on staff headcount
  • Oversee the daily operations of food service within the barn, including but not limited to:
  • Monitor inventory and order supplies for food preparation and kitchen needs
  • Create monthly meal plan
  • Prepare, cook, and serve lunch Monday through Friday, with leftovers prepared a/portioned for weekend staff
  • Cut, weigh, or measure ingredients according to recipes
  • Prepare meat, seafood, and poultry for cooking
  • Prepare vegetables to be used as sides, salad ingredients and/or condiments
  • Arrange prepared food on serving trays or in designated area for retrieval by staff
  • Prevent the spoilage of ingredients through proper storage in designated containers
  • Monitor the temperature of food and food storage areas
  • Operate cooking equipment
  • Adhere to best practices for food handling and safety regulations throughout the kitchen and dining areas
  • Maintain overall sanitation, health, cleanliness, and safety standards for food preparation areas, cooking services, dishes and utensils, equipment and overall facility
  • Gather comments, feedback, and other data about food and service quality; modify meal plans as necessary, and provide reporting to management
  • Schedule and coordinate maintenance, repairs, and improvements to food services equipment and facilities

Additional Support Duties

  • Demonstrate values of integrity, respect, excellence, innovation and adaptability
  • Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse
  • Follow biosecurity protocols in completing job duties

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Position may involve non-standard business hours.
  • Incumbent will carry out multiple daily tasks.
  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, bending and being on feet (up to 8 hours a day).
  • Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp, pull, and/or push.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds at times.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, and team members
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and work collaboratively with management and other stakeholders to identify and facilitate needed improvements to the food service program
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to draft reports, inventory, and budgets
  • Ability to follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or working in a food service program, including working knowledge of food service and nutritional guidelines and best practices
  • Livestock background
  • Successful completion of a food safety coursework and/or certification
