Seeking a Facilities Electrical Engineer III
The Facilities Electrical Engineer III is responsible for identifying, defining, and resolving complex engineering issues related to electrical power distribution, life safety, and control systems. The role develops and implements corrective action plans to mitigate risks that could impact facility operations, reliability, or safety, while ensuring compliance with sound engineering practices. Responsibilities include evaluating system performance through routine monitoring and inspections, determining maintenance and replacement requirements, and recommending preventive maintenance programs and capital improvement projects. The position analyzes project alternatives, reviews technical and vendor proposals, selects equipment and service providers, and establishes design, construction, and project milestones. Success in this role requires balancing short- and long-term operational impacts, assessing project feasibility, and managing both technical and administrative responsibilities, including project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the oversite of the electrical master permit program within the State of Oregon and the City of Portland. Respond to the City electrical inspectors' remarks.
- Use of Easy Power electrical modeling software, protection setting evaluation, time current studies, arch flash calculations and labeling. Management of assets and maintenance schedules.
- Ownership and control of specification and drawings for the electrical, life safety and control systems. Modify the systems as necessary to improve the process, reliability and sustaining cost reductions.
- Establish and maintain good working relationship with all suppliers and vendors and with production and process decision makers within Siltronic along with maintenance and facilities personnel in order to facilitate problem resolution on the electrical, life safety and control systems.
- Monitor usage of electrical power assign and report to main cost centers. Report abnormal trends to user groups. Provide necessary data for budget and cost control processes.
- Monitor, audit and inspection of the electrical, life safety and control systems.
- Act as the Project Engineer / Manager for capital projects associated with the electrical, LSS and controls systems and other areas as assigned. Responsibilities include cost estimation, cost control, design, detail scope of work, construction management, report writing and forecasting.
- Serve as technical specialist and consultant for the organization in the application of new methods, technologies and solution to problems of exceptional difficulty and marked importance to the company. Investigate power outage issues within the facilities and be the point of contact with our utility provider.
- Serve on the facilities energy management team, monitor energy with data loggers and metering, input into energy tracking tools, evaluate conservation opportunities and provide visibility to management on our savings programs.
- Plan, control and execute engineering projects in accordance with acceptable engineering practices and follow applicable plant engineering standards.
- Demonstrate professional competence in the electrical discipline and a diversity of technical knowledge in other appropriate areas of engineering.
- Prepare project proposals and requests for funding.
- Prepare project specifications and scope of work for consultants and contractors.
- Review and select vendors, consultants, and contractors. Monitor and control the execution of projects for cost, schedule and performance.
- Provide regular project reports/updates and forecasts to management and update preventative maintenance instructions as necessary.
- Provide complete documentation for sustaining and projects including preventative maintenance schedules, standard operating procedures and spare parts in connection with each project.
- Perform exact engineering calculations and analyze run data.
- Coordinate activities of engineer I's and II's and any support teams.
- Organize, direct, and control the efforts of SCO engineering project teams with outside contractors.
- Provide technical support to other engineering disciplines and maintenance staff.
- Review vendor products.
- Maintain electrical, controls and LSS catalog library.
Position Requirements
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred, along with at least five years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of experience and Siltronic-specific training. A GS or PS license, or the ability to maintain the City of Portland Electrical Master Permit Program, is highly desirable. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of industrial power distribution systems, including 15kV, 4.16kV, and 480V three-phase electrical systems, as well as applicable electrical, safety, environmental, and building codes. Experience with life safety, control, and PLC-based systems that support manufacturing operations is preferred, along with familiarity with fire protection and facilities monitoring systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in electrical system design, maintenance, reliability, and power monitoring, supported by strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, SAP, and other engineering software applications is required, along with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts through reports, presentations, and cross-functional collaboration. Experience mentoring apprentices and supporting the development of less experienced team members is also preferred.
