ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $44,907.00 - 67,359.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $46,000.00 - 54,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The Parks Department with the City of Fort Collins is filling two vacancies for Technician I, Parks (Golf). Successful candidate's will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in all phases of golf course maintenance. These activities may include facility repairs and maintenance; turf, shrub, and plant care; installation and repair of underground irrigation systems; concrete work; equipment maintenance and renovation activities. As you see, this position holds a variety of responsibilities that make each day different than the next. Relevant experience for this position can come from several years of experience in parks, cemetery landscapes, horticulture, or farming environments. Background work in golf courses, landscaping, or irrigation is very helpful. Work hours are typically weekdays from 5:00 AM to 2 PM with some time adjustment throughout the seasons and a rotating schedule for weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Performs skills associated with accepted maintenance practices including but not limited to municipal parks, golf courses and cemeteries.
  • Cleans and repairs grounds, golf courses, restrooms, facilities, playgrounds, shelters, etc.
  • Maintains landscape areas including paver/brick repairs, hard/soft surface trails, cleaning and litter control; maintains, repairs, and tests water features.
  • Prepares and renovates golf courses, playing fields and/or courts for recreational use.
  • Performs snow removal duties.
  • Safely operates and maintains medium to heavy-duty motor vehicles and specialized industry-related equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation and pumping systems.
  • Provides direction and supervision to hourly and contractual employees.
  • Coordinates activities with volunteer groups and community partnerships.
  • Responsible for adhering to, and being an example of, following proper safety rules and regulations.
  • Manages a flexible work schedule including hours of the day, weekends, holidays, and participates in on call rotation, if applicable.
  • Utilizes Integrated Pest Management approach and applies pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer as appropriate.
  • Availability to assist with special events, rentals and special projects as required.
  • Performs technical horticulture by designing, installing and maintaining flowers, containers, and planting beds containing trees, shrubs and perennials.

  • Ability to do carpentry, plumbing, welding, concrete, and/or electrical work.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize work tasks.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety guidelines.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • May be required to obtain certifications.
  • Experience with garden design (beds and containers) and indoor/outdoor plant maintenance.
  • Ability to identify tree, shrub, and plant species.
  • Irrigation system maintenance and repair skills.
  • Proficient in use of a computer and industry-related software such as e-mail, word processing and database input/management.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Preferred High School Diploma or GED High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience Requirements

  • Two years related experience in the parks, golf course maintenance, cemetery landscape, horticulture or farming industry.

Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire a Department of Transportation Certification.
  • Ability to acquire Colorado Pesticide Applicator's License.
  • Ability to acquire Small Engine Repair Certification.
  • Ability to acquire a Water Auditor Certification.
