Job description
Mechanization Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement mechanization strategies aligned with farm production goals
- Plan seasonal machinery requirements and deployment schedules
- Ensure optimal allocation and utilization of all mechanized assets
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Oversee daily operations of tractors, bulldozers, harvesters, and implements
- Monitor equipment performance, uptime, and productivity levels
- Establish preventive and corrective maintenance systems to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate records of machine usage, servicing, and lifecycle costs
Operational Efficiency & Cost Control
- Drive efficiency in land preparation, planting, and harvesting operations
- Optimize fuel consumption, spare parts usage, and maintenance costs
- Implement best practices to improve turnaround time and output
Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of operators, mechanics, and technical staff
- Establish clear performance targets and accountability structures
- Train and enforce safety and operational standards across all teams
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards
- Implement safe operating procedures for all machinery
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with equipment suppliers, service providers, and contractors
- Oversee procurement of spare parts, and consumables
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment upgrades
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Provide regular reports on mechanization performance, efficiency, and costs
- Use data-driven insights to improve productivity and decision-making
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across mechanization processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage)
- Minimum of 10-15 years’ relevant experience in mechanized agriculture
- Proven experience managing mechanization operations in large-scale commercial farms in Nigeria
- Strong technical knowledge of tractors, bulldozers, implements, and farm equipment
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams
