Job description

Provide technical delivery and project leadership in this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, contributing to the successful delivery of moderate to large-scale building services projects. You will apply your technical expertise across design and project delivery while supporting project managers, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and building strong client relationships.

There is some flexibility on location for this role and whilst our first preference would be Hamilton, we are open to considering candidates in Auckland or Wellington too.

This role offers the opportunity to further develop your technical and professional capability while contributing to high-quality project outcomes and strengthening AECOM’s building services presence in New Zealand. You will play an active role in project delivery, client engagement and continuous improvement, working closely with teams across New Zealand and Australia.

You’ll also gain exposure to large-scale, technically challenging and high-profile projects across Australia and the wider ANZ region, working alongside leading specialists and contributing to projects that push innovation in healthcare, aviation and complex infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects, ensuring outputs meet quality, time and budget expectations.
  • Support project management activities including coordination, resource planning and managing competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Build and maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships, contributing to business development and repeat work opportunities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality design solutions across a range of sectors.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, supporting knowledge sharing and team development.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a great fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering (building services would be advantageous)
  • Experience across a range of mechanical engineering project types.
  • Experience in healthcare projects would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to or managing projects, with the ability to handle multiple priorities, timelines and stakeholders.
  • Ideally working towards Chartered (CPEng) status.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Understanding of New Zealand building services standards and codes, or the ability to adapt from comparable international environments.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery requirements within a consulting environment.

Why you’ll love working with us

  • Flexible work arrangements available, aligned with the market and client facing role requirements
  • Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
  • Volunteer and representation leave
  • Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
