Job description

Student Advising and Support (40%)

  • Provide individual academic advising to transfer students using developmental and proactive advising approaches that foster mutually growth-fostering relationships
  • Meet with prospective transfer students to discuss course selection at their home institution and provide pre-matriculation advising both on-campus, at area community colleges, and virtually
  • Facilitate smooth enrollment transitions by providing initial advisement, course registration assistance, and general orientation information to incoming transfer students
  • Assist students in understanding degree requirements, academic policies, transfer credit evaluation, and progress toward degree completion
  • Support students with academic planning, course selection, and career exploration aligned with their educational goals and identified strengths
  • Utilize advising technologies (DegreeWorks, Schedule Planner, EAB Navigate 360, TES) to monitor academic progress, prepare reports, and document all advising interactions
  • Maintain systematic and frequent contact with advisees through multiple communication channels and early alert systems
  • Refer students to specialized campus resources for comprehensive counseling, financial aid, disability services, tutoring, career development, and wellness support to minimize transfer shock
  • Implement appreciative advising techniques to help students identify strengths, set goals, and develop action plans for academic success

Partnership Development and Collaboration (25%)

  • Serve as an information resource and strategic liaison to the Community College Partnership Manager regarding current and prospective MOU and articulation agreement partners
  • Maintain knowledge of transfer articulation agreements, state transfer policies, Maryland ARTSYS system, and institutional transfer requirements
  • Build and sustain intentional relationships with advisors, faculty, and staff at community college partner institutions
  • Collaborate with university schools, colleges, and division stakeholders to develop communication strategies and enhance visibility of transfer student services
  • Coordinate with the Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, School/College Transfer Coordinators, and department chairs regarding transfer student cohorts and credit evaluations
  • Foster partnerships with faculty advisors to ensure seamless advising transitions when transfer students meet departmental advising criteria

Student Engagement and Leadership (20%)

  • Serve as advisor for the Morgan Transfer Alliance student organization and co-advisor for Tau Sigma National Transfer Honor Society
  • Plan, facilitate, or support transfer-specific programming, workshops, and events that promote academic success, campus integration, and community building
  • Participate actively in campus recruitment events, including open houses, transfer visit days, college fairs, and orientation programs
  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Program Coordinator and Program Coordinator on student status, advising outcomes, and programmatic needs
  • Support Alternative Admission Program students by serving as a resource to the Program Coordinator and ensuring appropriate support services

Assessment, Reporting, and Professional Development (15%)

  • Prepare enrollment, retention, persistence, and assessment reports using institutional data systems and advising platforms
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all advising sessions, student interactions, and outcomes in EAB Navigate 360
  • Contribute to program assessment and accreditation efforts as needed
  • Engage in continuous professional development through self-directed reading, professional organization involvement (NACADA), conferences, workshops, and training sessions
  • Participate in departmental meetings, university committees, and collaborative initiatives that advance transfer student success
  • Stay current on best practices in transfer advising, equity-minded advising, or student development theory
