Job description

Ready for a new challenge?

We are entering an exciting growth phase focused on cutting-edge data centre construction. We aren't looking for someone to just "crunch numbers" - we are looking for a Finance Business Partner who can act as a vital bridge between our business units, finance and senior management.

While this position encompasses the end-to-end project accounting function, expertise in Capital budgeting and forecasting is the cornerstone of the role. In this role, you won't just manage data; you will refine our forecasting and transform complex project information into a meaningful narrative that drives high-level decision-making and real impact across the organisation.

What will you do:

  • Manage all project accounting activities, including monthly project journals, accruals, cost adjustments and reallocations, budget transfers, and project financial close
  • Coordinate and support day-to-day project-level financial transactions, including project setup, cost code maintenance, progress claim reconciliations, procurement support, and invoice payment workflow approvals
  • Maintain project master data across all relevant systems, including project codes, project-level cost codes, and associated general ledger accounts
  • Perform monthly reconciliation and reporting of actual project expenditure and commitments against approved project budgets
  • Lead monthly project budget reviews with Project Managers and provide expenditure reforecasts as inputs into month-end reporting processes
  • Prepare and deliver project-level capital expenditure forecasts as part of the annual corporate planning process
  • Collaborate with the Fixed Assets team to ensure work-in-progress balances are reconciled monthly and transferred to the Fixed Assets Register for timely depreciation
  • Partner with project delivery teams to establish and maintain compliance with financial policies, procedures, and governance requirements
  • Act as a key liaison between Finance and the business for project accounting matters, including capital expenditure forecasts for insurance premiums, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reporting, and internal and external audit requirements
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as assigned by the manager

About you

The preferable candidate will be a disciplined finance professional who thrives in a capital-intensive environment and possesses a natural aptitude for financial technology.

  • Proven experience in complex financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting within construction, infrastructure, or a similar capex-heavy industry.
  • Passionate about efficiency and "working smarter." You possess advanced skills in Power tools and you enjoy using them to streamline large datasets and automate manual processes.
  • Ability to manage high-volume data with precision to create clarity and efficiency.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and articulate financial outcomes clearly to non-finance audiences.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a focus on continuous process improvement and the adoption of emerging financial technologies.
  • Comfortable with change and excited by the prospect of using AI and new technologies to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ relevant experience across the full project lifecycle, including feasibility, budgeting, forecasting, transactional processing, and financial close
  • Proven experience in a broad range of project accounting and transactional activities
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) preferred
  • Exposure to planning system such as Adaptive Planning is favourable
  • Opportunity to be a vital part of NEXTDC
  • Inclusive, diverse and values-driven working culture
  • Great opportunities to progress within our company (grow as we grow)
  • Our mission is to continue building a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents the communities in which we operate.
