Job Description
We are seeking a practical and motivated Irrigation Maintenance Operator to support the maintenance and reliability of the City’s irrigation infrastructure across our parks and public open spaces.
Reporting to the Irrigation Officer, this role is responsible for undertaking irrigation maintenance, including testing, fault finding, repairs and minor system modifications to ensure irrigation systems operate effectively and meet service delivery standards.
This is a hands‑on role working across a range of irrigation systems and equipment while contributing to the presentation, safety and sustainability of the City’s parks and reserves.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Undertake scheduled irrigation maintenance and system inspections
- Test, troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems including pipes, valves, sprinklers and control systems
- Program irrigation controllers (including solar and battery operated systems)
- Complete minor alterations and upgrades to irrigation infrastructure
- Carry out fault diagnostics using tools such as multi‑meters and cable locators
- Maintain plant, equipment and materials in line with fleet and asset management requirements
- Conduct safety inspections and actively promote safe work practices
- Liaise with Parks Maintenance teams and contractors to support efficient operations
- Assist with training and mentoring of team members where required

What You’ll Bring
- Certificate in Irrigation, Turf or Horticulture, or demonstrated experience in irrigation maintenance and installation
- Experience maintaining commercial irrigation systems
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation plans and drawings
- Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- Strong work ethic and commitment to quality outcomes
Desirable:
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management competency
- First Aid Certificate
Essential Requirements
- Year 10 Certificate
- Safety Awareness Training Certificate
- National Police Clearance (less than 3 months old)
- Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
