Job description

JOB PURPOSE: Based at Biogen’s Solothurn manufacturing facility (SOL), this Senior Manufacturing Scientist position focuses on introducing and developing innovative biomanufacturing technologies and improving reliability and operationality of existing technologies. The goals are to establish proof-of-concept and manufacturing use cases for new technologies, and to develop manufacturing implementation and lifecycle improvement strategies for technologies coming out of development, with the purpose of improving product quality consistency and biomanufacturing productivity, operation reliability, and efficiency. The technical areas of interest include, but not limit to cell culture, harvest and purification process intensification, advanced data analytics and process modelling, Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and Advanced Process Controls (APC), digitalization and data management technologies including artificial intelligence, single use technology adaptation etc. The position is based 50% in SOL and is employed 50% at FHNW Muttenz (employed 50% by FHNW) to build bridge to academia, transfer of knowledge to Biogen and identify high potential students.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Propose and conduct technology innovation projects towards establishing new technology proof of concept, manufacturing use cases, value proposition and implementation strategy.
  • Develop lifecycle improvement strategies for technologies out of development pipeline, by customizing the new technologies for better facility/automation fit, improving operationality and reliability, as well as reducing cost of maintenance.
  • Partner with the Global Process Analytics team within Global Manufacturing Sciences, develop new applications of advanced data analysis and modelling capabilities for process consistency assessment, product quality prediction, advanced process controls or development of bioprocess “digital twin”.
  • Collaborate with academic institutes and technology providers to evaluate the feasibility and value propositions of new technologies for Biogen’s biomanufacturing. Build knowledge bridge and knowledge management capabilities as part of FHNW Muttenz
  • Identify talent and support Biogen’s trainings efforts
  • More than 5 years of experience in bioprocessing research and development or biomanufacturing technology management in industry or academia.
