Job description

Medical Manager Patient Services is integral to

  • provide field-based medical/scientific expertise ensuring understanding of the disease area and support patients, nurses and advocacy groups
  • build valued constructive partnerships with key stakeholders in the medical community and the healthcare system
  • provide medical education and medical/scientific exchange and support
  • gather medical insights and support research/data generation initiatives

Medical manager Patient Services acts as a trusted and credible medical science discussion partner by engaging in scientific/medical exchange with HCPs/stakeholders – especially in the care and nursing sector - as appropriate, depending upon local requirements and regulations, this includes or may include:

  • responsibility for Patient Support Program- oversight of vendors ( nurse service and call center
  • responsibility for communication with patients, nurses, care givers and advocacy groups
  • Proactive or reactive focused communication / education within the product label (using non-promotional materials)
  • Proactive, broad discussion around relevant disease areas focused on the identification of patient needs
  • Answering medical inquiries from HCPs – especially in the care and nursing sector - in the assigned area as well as referrals from Med Info
  • Legitimate exchange of medical and scientific information during the development of a medicine for the purpose of information gathering from groups such as medical care experts/care thought leaders (e.g. presentations at symposia, Nurse Workshops, Nurse Adboards)
  • Identifies opportunities to appropriately conduct a scientific discourse (within the local law and company guidelines)
  • Provides expertise to HCPs and other stakeholders - especially in the care and nursing sector - who wish to present data on Biogen disease areas and related products (e.g. speaker briefing)
  • Manages scientific needs and needs for patients of thought leaders by establishing long-term strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/nurses/major medical associations and 3rd party vendors for patient support programs to build outstanding product awareness and advocacy
  • Implementation and organization of key local medical nurse projects, e.g. Nurse AdBoard and Nurse Workshop. Ensure that actual expenses are within project budget.
  • Organization of medical educational meetings within the assigned territory (e.g. Nurse Expert meetings, Nurse Round Tables)
  • Visits have to be documented in the appropriately provided documentation system (e.g. Veeva, VoKOL)within set timelines
  • Stays up to date with therapy advances, current research, medical scientific knowledge and detailed knowledge on Biogen products and relevant disease areas.
  • Congress attendance in alignment with the direct manager o Providing and attending product- and other medical related trainings
  • Appropriately interacts and collaborate with other internal functions o Provides insights on medical care activities and patient needs o Gathers (unmet) medical needs to inform pipeline development
  • Ensures that all applicable external and internal regulations are fulfilled in the areas of pharmacovigilance (adverse events reporting, PV-training), regulatory and review non-promotional/patient materials (e.g. support of ZINC-reviews)
  • Ensures that all activities are compliant with all applicable external regulations and internal policies and procedures. Support compliance activities amongst others. Completes all assigned trainings
  • Ensures Medical activities are compliant with Biogen SOP´s, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ICH guidelines
  • Plans and conducts all Medical Affairs activities with the aim to contribute to the optimization of patient outcomes
  • Contributes to the development of Medical strategies and provides medical input into brand strategies and develops a Medical plan for each assigned product, in support of the brand plans.
  • Works together with Manager to develop KME- and Stakeholder Engagement Plans in accordance with the overall strategic brand plans
  • Management of publications related to the brand
  • Contributes to the development, attends and presents at appropriate meetings (e.g. Advisory Boards, Investigator meetings, Expert Meetings)
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship and interact directly with EU+ Medical Teams to understand global strategy and shares best practices
  • Supports the Marketing and Market Access strategy for all assigned products by being a key member on cross functional teams
  • Reviews promotional and medical materials and documents for patients/ nurses and advocacy h´groups for medical accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations
  • Answers unsolicited medical inquiries from HCPs and patients according to the local law and internal regulations
  • Participate in personal development and training sessions

  • Experienced in medical/pharmaceutical/clinical environment desirable.

We are looking for a

Manager, Patient Services (m/f) for our Austrian affiliate.

Start Date: April - May 2018

The ideal candidate will perform and is responsible for all medical tasks and projects with patient/nurse focus in Austria. The job holder works office-based or home office-based as appropriate, the position will require approximately 50% of travel time, as ist covers the whole of Austria.
