Job description
The primary role of a medical scribe is to assist the Emergency Department physician with the complete documentation of patients' charts. Scribes accompany ED physicians seeing patients in order to record each patient's history, review of systems, and the physical examination performed by the physician. Scribes keep track of laboratory tests, medications, and radiology tests ordered by the physician, and transcribe the results into the chart once they are completed. Scribes document all procedures done by the physician which may include performing life support, reducing dislocations, suturing, etc. Scribes document any consultations the ED physician makes to a patient's personal doctor, family members, or on-call physician. Scribes are responsible for documenting all diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and discharge/follow-up information for each patient. The shifts always vary, but generally are between 10 and 12 hours.
You must be at least 18 years of age and have sophomore, junior or senior status or be a recent graduate. Freshman are not eligible for hire. You must be pre-health professional student at an accredited university or recent graduate. You must be able to balance school and work. You must have excellent computer / typing skills. You must be able to commit to one of these time requirements: Part-Time: You must work 8-11 shifts per month for a minimum of 2 years. This is a NOT an internship, this is a real job with real responsibilities! Our Scribes must be reliable, positive, motivated, and professional. These attributes are essential to success in an ED or clinical setting.
