Job description
Our security engineering teams provide expert professional knowledge and technical skills within a specialist area, and execute the bank's information security initiatives, enabling management to make the appropriate decisions and monitoring the protection of sensitive data and systems.
The PPB Technology Security Engineering Graduate Programme aims to attract talent with strong technical knowledge who can become thought leaders and trusted advisors. The programme combines theoretical learning and practical experience.
By the end of the programme, you will have gained exposure to and developed skills in:
- Apply and operate Information Security standards, controls, and practices as defined by the wider IT and Security functions.
- Support day‑to‑day Security Operations, including the monitoring, analysis, and maintenance of security controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.
- Participate in the review of security incidents and operational issues, helping to identify control gaps and contributing to remediation activities.
- Gain exposure to enterprise security tooling, platforms, and processes, developing an understanding how security controls are implemented and operated in practice.
- Work alongside experienced security engineers and architects to understand how security controls are designed and integrated across multiple systems and environments.
- Develop an understanding of common attack scenarios and how appropriate security controls are selected and applied to mitigate risk.
- Assist in improving and optimising security processes, including the automation of repeatable security tasks, to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Build foundational knowledge in cloud security concepts and controls, with progressive exposure to securing cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure as part of the programme.
- Leverage AI‑assisted security tools where appropriate to support security monitoring, analysis and operational decision‑making, while understanding the limitations and governance considerations of AI in security.
Final year undergraduate OR honours OR masters degree (completed or currently completing in 2026) in:
- Computer Science
- Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Informatics, Information Systems
- Software Development
- Software Engineering
- Information Technology
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be under 30 years of age
- No more than two years’ work experience
- Minimum of 65% average over all years of study
