Job description

This vacancy is open to employees of Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust only.

NHS Band 6:  Salary £39,959 to £48,117 per annum 

Hours per Week:  37.5 

Contract Type: Permanent 

We are seeking experienced and motivated Occupational Health Nurse Advisors to join our integrated Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service, working collaboratively across Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

The varied caseload offers a rewarding mix of clinical practice, advisory work, and service development.

As an Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, you will manage your own clinical caseload, providing expert, evidence-based advice to managers and staff. The role requires strong clinical judgement, autonomy, and the ability to deliver clear, high-quality written reports.

Main Duties

  • Undertake management referrals and self-referral occupational health assessments
  • Provide evidence-based advice on fitness for work, absence management, and workplace adjustments
  • Deliver health surveillance programmes and vaccination services
  • Complete pre-employment screening and immunisation reviews
  • Support safety-critical roles, including ambulance service staff
  • Contribute to the delivery of services for external commercial clients
  • Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records using electronic systems
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver an effective and responsive service

  • Is a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Has an occupational health qualification or significant relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of occupational health legislation and best practice.
  • Has experience managing a varied and complex clinical caseload.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Can work autonomously, prioritise workload, and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Is confident using IT systems and electronic patient records.
