Job description

Are you an Acoustic Sensor Systems Engineer looking for a new challenge?

If you want to expand your reach and share your knowledge with a team of professionals, contribute to the development of your colleagues' or Clients' skills, want to consolidate your expertise and grow on innovative projects, this is your opportunity!

What this experience will bring you

First of all, an interesting technical challenge but also an overview of our Client's projects.
We will build your career together and accompany you towards the development of new skills and technical leadership.

What will your role be?

We are looking for an Acoustic Sensor Systems Engineer to perform the following activities:

  • Acoustic transducer design (MEMS, piezoelectric, electret, or dynamic).
  • Acoustic and mechanical modeling.
  • Vibro-acoustic simulation (FEM, resonances, polar patterns).
  • Front-end electronic design: preamplifiers, filters, ADCs, and ultra-low-noise power supplies.
  • Noise analysis: SNR, THD+N, thermal noise, and quantization noise.
  • Real-time microphone signal processing.
  • DSP algorithm development for compensation, equalization, beamforming, and filtering.
  • Microcontroller programming for real-time algorithm implementation.
  • Mechanical/acoustic enclosure design (cavities, acoustic ports, sound-absorbing materials).
  • Validation in anechoic chambers or acoustic test boxes: frequency response, sensitivity, and directivity patterns.
  • Integration of the sensor into complex embedded systems.

What are we looking for in you? Experience and competencies

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Acoustics, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields.
  • A Master’s degree or PhD in acoustics or transducer technology is a plus.
  • Physics of acoustic transducers: MEMS, piezoelectric, electret, and dynamic.
  • Applied acoustics: resonances, acoustic impedance, cavities, Helmholtz resonators, and directivity.
  • Advanced DSP: FIR/IIR filters, FFT, adaptive filtering, AGC, equalization, and optimization for resource-constrained systems.
  • Low-noise analog electronics: microphone preamplifiers, active filters, ADCs/DACs.
  • Embedded firmware development: C/C++, ARM Cortex-M, RISC-V, and management of I²S/PDM/TDM interfaces.
  • Acoustic instrumentation: reference microphones, calibrators, and audio analyzers.
  • Acoustic enclosure design (cavities, ports, materials).
  • Simulation software: COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB/Octave, and Python (SciPy).

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Design of microphone arrays and beamforming techniques.
  • Experience with MEMS PDM sensors and dedicated ASICs.
  • Knowledge of acoustic materials and mechanical modeling.
  • Experience in noise reduction and ANC (Active Noise Cancellation).

Soft skills:

  • Strong analytical and experimental skills.
  • Precision in measurement and validation.
  • Ability to collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and firmware teams.
  • Strong R&D mindset.

Languages:

  • Italian (Fluent)
  • English (fluent, oral and written)

Why would you take the plunge?

Because Scalian is a group of specialists, carrying an ambitious development project, focused on innovation and committed to its customers where you can:
· Build a tailor-made career path, varied and adapted to your desires, thanks to the variety of missions in your area of expertise and the bridges between trades
· Learn by the quality of the projects on which you will intervene, in your specialty, and thanks to the large training catalog delivered by our internal Academy
· Have an attractive social framework that respects everyone's needs (telework agreement, crèches, social coverage, flexibility, soft mobility, etc.)
· Contribute to R&D topics or participate in internal projects
· Be part of a friendly team that will make work rhyme with pleasure!
