We are looking for an Accounting Payroll Assistant to join our team in Costa Rica. The selected candidate will be responsible to do monthly and weekly payroll, and all related stuff to the payroll cycle. Give support to the Accounting Manager with the accounting and administrative processes and with the planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following; other duties may be assigned:
- Process, validate, and control weekly and monthly payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and review statutory payroll reports and payments for Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), Ministerio de Hacienda, and other legal obligations (including garnishments and alimony).
- Prepare payroll journal entries, process employee payments via electronic banking or checks, and record transactions in Epicor.
- Calculate and review severance payments and manage intern payroll payments.
- Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations for payroll-related accounts and reconcile payroll accruals.
- Coordinate payroll onboarding for new hires, including employee bank account setup.
- Provide accounting and financial information to internal and external auditors.
- Support the accounting cycle, including trial balance accounts, in coordination with the Accounting Manager.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards, International Accounting Standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (United States).
- Support budget preparation and budget execution analysis.
- Provide cross-functional support for other Accounting Department activities and process improvement initiatives as needed.
Required education and experience:
- pursing a Bachelor´s Degree in Administration, Finance, Accounting or other related area
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in financial/accounting areas and one year of experience in weekly/monthly payroll area.
- Extensive knowledge of labor working days and general to the current labor law.
- Basic Knowledge of the complete accounting cycle.
- Intermediate English proficiency preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with Exactus and other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is desirable.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing, email, and standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Windows or equivalent), with basic system configuration knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety procedures, operating instructions, and technical documentation.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to perform calculations, analyze trends, and prepare routine reports.
- Results-oriented, detail-focused, and able to solve problems effectively in standardized environments.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
