Job Description
Purpose of Role
The School Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors using the school swimming pool facilities. The role supports full compliance with ADEK health, safety, and safeguarding regulations and contributes to the school’s overall duty of care and risk management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Student Safety & Supervision
Provide constant and active supervision of students during swimming lessons, aquatic activities, and school events.
Enforce pool safety rules, emergency action plans, and school policies in line with ADEK requirements.
Intervene promptly to prevent unsafe behavior and ensure appropriate student conduct.
Emergency Response & First Aid
Respond immediately and effectively to aquatic emergencies, including water rescues and evacuations.
Administer first aid, CPR, and AED support as required.
Accurately document and report all incidents, accidents, and near misses in accordance with school and ADEK reporting procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Conduct daily safety inspections of pool facilities, rescue equipment, and surrounding areas.
Monitor pool conditions, access control, and potential hazards, reporting concerns to school leadership.
Support risk assessments, safety audits, and emergency preparedness related to aquatic activities.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
Comply fully with the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy in line with ADEK standards.
Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model at all times.
Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Collaboration & Support
Work collaboratively with PE teachers, swimming instructors, and school leadership to ensure safe lesson delivery.
Assist with pool opening and closing procedures and supervision during extracurricular activities and school events.
Strengthening Community:
Promotes and models good relationships with parents and carers, which are based on partnerships to support and improve pupils’ learning and achievement.
Contribute to the development of the school as a community within the community, strengthening partnerships with families, neighbours, our local and wider community, other schools, services and the local authority.
Contribute to the development of the education system by sharing effective and best practice, working in partnership with other schools and promoting innovation.
Liaise with our partner schools in the ISP group and other service providers including extended service providers and community resources to enrich and expand our provision and secure partnerships, collaborations, enrichment opportunities and expertise which bring benefits to all children and our school community.
Contribute to policies and practices which promote equality of opportunity and tackle prejudice and discrimination, support staff well- being and work-life balance and help to ensure we provide access to opportunities for growth, achievement and success for all adults and children in school.
Health and Safety
Emphasises the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum, communicating to the pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for Aspen Heights British School’s property and equipment.
Perform playground duties on time and with due diligence to safeguard Aspen students.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
Ensure that all the necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed.
Maintain an awareness of all the health and safety measures to be taken when in school.
Other duties and responsibilities
Any other duties that the Head of PE may from time to time ask the post-holder to perform.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Educational Qualifications Required for the Role
Valid Lifeguard Certification recognized in the UAE.
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
Lifeguard Course Certification
Minimum Years of Experience Required
Previous lifeguarding experience, preferably within a school or youth environment.
Knowledge of ADEK health and safety expectations for school facilities.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection obligations in educational settings.
Other Requirements
High level of vigilance, responsibility, and professionalism.
Calm, decisive, and confident in emergency situations.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Physically fit with strong swimming and rescue capability.
Cultural awareness and respect for the school community.
