Job Description Summary

The Senior Counsel provides legal support to the TTC business teams in the region and will report to the GE Aerospace General Counsel for the METCIS region with an additional reporting line to the site leader of the TTC.

The responsibilities of the senior counsel include drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on legal and compliance matters, supporting senior business leaders and helping lead, develop and manage the TTC’s compliance program in line with GE Aerospace’s compliance principles. The position is based in Kartal, Istanbul. The position is full time and there is an expectation to be present at the TTC in person, at least three days each week.

Role Overview:

  • Strategic Legal Support and compliance oversight: Provide comprehensive legal support for all TTC businesses.Provide leadership and oversight to business operations to assure adherence to all aspects of internal company and external regulatory compliance. Ensures appropriate mechanisms are in place to comply with relevant laws and regulations, and adherence to corporate programs and practices. We estimate that compliance matters will comprise 20-30% of the senior counsel’s workload.
  • Leads site Compliance Program: in close coordination with site leadership and regional & business compliance teams, builds a culture of compliance across the site, and ensures excellent compliance records. Lead and maintain operational compliance focals at the site. Partner with, mentors and coaches the local part-time ombuds. Conducts internal compliance audits. Leads & coordinates business compliance risk assessment and develops and oversees risk mitigation plans. Develops and leads the TTC site compliance communication plan (such as All Hands, Staff Meetings, Compliance flow-down to employees, visual compliance), serves as the point of contact for compliance matters at the site, and builds compliance awareness at the Site. Owns Compliance KPIs, monitors trends and drives continuous improvement
  • Commercial Expertise: Draft, review, and negotiate high-stakes commercial agreements and transactions with key customers.
  • Indirect Sourcing: Collaborate closely with senior counsel in the METCIS region to counsel on indirect sourcing matters.
  • Day to day local law support to site leader and associated functions: Advise (with external counsel and internal specialist counsel, as applicable) on regulatory, labour and employment and real estate matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver impactful training sessions to business teams on legal and compliance topics.
  • Dispute and Litigation Management: Oversee disputes and litigation, managing outside counsel when necessary.
  • Entity Management: Support the management of the TTC.
  • Business and Legal Judgment: Apply sound business and legal judgment to proposed deals and other issues requiring legal or compliance attention.
  • Regulatory Updates: Stay abreast of new legal and regulatory developments, educating the business accordingly.

The Ideal Candidate is a qualified compliance experienced in corporate, commercial, banking, or litigation matters, gained at a leading law firm or corporate legal department. They are fluent in English and Turkish, commercially minded, and capable of providing practical legal support while leading compliance initiatives in a fast-paced, international environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Law degree from a recognized Turkish University and admitted to practice law in Turkey.
  • Professional Experience: Previous business law experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department, with a proven track record in drafting, negotiating, and closing business transactions. The ideal candidate will have at least 4-5 years of experience with a leading Turkish law firm in any one or more of the following areas: corporate, commercial, banking or litigation.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and Turkish is essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects and capable of prioritizing conflicting demands in a fast paced environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross functionally with globally distributed and culturally diverse teams across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.
