Our firm is currently looking for a Construction Manager based in the Los Angeles, CA area. The Construction Manager will successfully manage infrastructure projects including roadway, storm drain, dams, channels, pump stations, waterworks, sewer, traffic signal, and landscaping.  Based on the workload, the candidate may be assigned to work at a specific project site to manage all aspects of the project’s construction phase. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work on multiple projects concurrently.

  • Perform plan and specifications constructability reviews.

  • Hold preconstruction meetings.

  • Issue Notice to Proceeds.

  • Review, process, and track RFIs. 

  • Review, process, and track submittals. 

  • Track and process requests for substitutions.

  • Prepare and/or review change orders and obtain approval.

  • Prepare and maintain logs of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other documents.

  • Prepare written project reports for management.

  • Update project status in division’s database.

  • Review and approve contractors pay requests.

  • Prepare and respond to contractor’s correspondence.

  • Respond to inquiries from the public, other agencies, and other Public Works staff.

  • Interface with other Client departments and agencies to resolve problems and coordinate planning.

  • Prepare meeting agendas, run meetings, and prepare accurate meeting minutes.

  • Work closely with Client project managers, designers, and inspectors to deliver projects.

  • Coordinate project close-out activities.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Prior experience managing transportation infrastructure projects, such as roadways and/or bridge project types.

  • Work experience in project planning and development.

  • Knowledge and experience planning, managing & coordinating all aspects of project, scope and cost for multiple projects.

  • Knowledgeable in CEQA/NEPA.

  • Knowledge of public contracting code and practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and re-evaluate scope throughout the project and recommend adjustments when necessary.

  • Experience collaborating with cost management group to provide accurate and timely cost estimates, cost studies, actual job cost reviews, and budget reconciliation.

  • Ability to exercise creativity and resourcefulness in managing the project effectively in a compressed timeframe.

  • Ability to independently manage all aspects of a project.

  • Utilize effective written and oral communication skills. 

  • Ability to understand how your role contributes to the organization's goals. 

  • Deliver quality work product by role modeling organizational core values. 

  • Hold self accountable to individual and team goals. 

  • Consistently communicate and collaborate with team members and clients.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years (CMII), or15 years (CMIII) of construction management and concurrent field construction experience.

  • Minimum 5 years in construction management experience managing horizontal infrastructure projects including duties in contract administration, project close out, and concurrent field experience.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to independently complete assignments.

  • Ability to develop and maintain logs.

  • Ability to interpret contract plans and specifications, including other agency permits.

  • Ability to effectively facilitate project team and client meetings.

  • Ability to effectively negotiate and prepare change orders.

  • Ability to effectively monitor and coordinate project activities with the various project stakeholders.

  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to project issues and challenges.

  • Knowledge of the Greenbook or Caltrans specifications.

  • Licensed professional or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred.

  • Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build project delivery.

  • CMAR project delivery.

  • Job Order Contracting (JOC) project delivery.

  • Experience with County of Los Angeles Building Code and Standards.

  • Knowledge of Public Contracting Code and practices.

The salary range for this full-time role is $120,200.00-$160,266.69 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
