Job description

Overview Part Time Position 7am-7pm The paramedic functions under the medical direction of the Medical Director and/or supervising ED attending with general supervision of the RN. The paramedic provides care for patients in accordance with physician's orders, policies, procedures, established standards and administrative policies. Provides direct and indirect patient care while adhering to the mission and objectives of the hospital in order to meet the healthcare needs of patients and families. The paramedic will be responsible for collecting pertinent data within their certification scope of responsibilities and will report all clinical, psychosocial, etc. findings to the RN and ED Physician. Responsibilities -Assists ER physicians with patient examinations and procedures. -Collects routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician. Performs point of care testing including: accucheck, urinalysis, troponin, and BMP. -Inserts foley catheters via sterile techniques per protocol. May also perform in and out catheters. -Performs and documents direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision according to hospitals guidelines -Integrates practice expectations as delineated in hospital policies -Maintains equipment, picks up and delivers supplies, equipment -Assumes guest associate responsibilities when required -Assumes clerical responsibilities when required -Maintains patient confidentiality -Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe patient environment -Assist with basic dietary tasks, feeding routine/special needs patients, delivering snacks, water and dietary screening. ---Performs ACLS functions in the ED under direct physician supervision, (defibrillation, external pacing, and cardioversion) -Additional skills as assigned within scope of practice approved by medical director. -Administer IV Fluids without additives and document in the Electronic Health Record. -Initiate treatment protocols in collaboration with the Triage RN as approved by the medical director -Performs venipunctures, and insertion/removal of peripheral intravenous catheters from extremities, including intraosseous. -May administer medications as recommended by the Medical Director and approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee -Performs suture/staple removal and splinting -Insertion of orogastric and nasogastric tubes -Takes vital signs. Measures and records patient input and output. Attaches oxygen and cardiac monitor and monitors patients' cardiac rhythm, performs 12 lead EKGs, suctions patient airways as directed, performs fleet enemas and reports finding to physician and care team assigned to the patient -Additional skills as assigned within scope of practice approved by medical director and the Board of Medicine Qualifications Required Education: GED or High School Diploma Preferred Education: Associates Degree (i.e. Allied Health Science, EMS, etc) Necessary Skills: Demonstrated clinical competency as evidenced by completion of unit specific skills checklist. Required Licensure/Certifications: Current State of Florida Paramedic License BLS Health Care Provider (American Heart Association) ACLS (American Heart Association) within 6 months of hire. PALS within 6 months of hire. NRP within 6 months of hire. Required Experience: Less than one year as paramedic Preferred Experience: 1-2 years paramedic experience in a hospital setting, previous EMS Dispatch experience, and/or 2 years ED patient care including triage experience -Assists ER physicians with patient examinations and procedures. -Collects routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician.
