Job description
ICON is at an inflection point — scaling manufacturing operations for the Titan printer platform and standing up the cost accounting infrastructure to match. We are looking for an Accounting Manager, Operational Accounting to join the Corporate Accounting team and own the financial engine behind that growth. This role takes full ownership of manufacturing cost accounting and project accounting — two of the highest-complexity, highest-stakes workstreams in the close — including inventory, WIP, COGS, and standard cost accounting for hardware production, as well as revenue recognition, project-level P&Ls, and WIP schedule management across ICON’s construction business. This person will be a trusted business partner to Operations and segment leads, translating operational activity into accurate financials as ICON scales. This role is intentionally scoped to grow as manufacturing scales and project volume increases, the Accounting Manager will have the opportunity to expand their team and deepen their function. This is an onsite role based in Austin, TX, reporting to the Corporate Controller.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manufacturing Accounting
- Own cost accounting for hardware production — material, labor, and overhead — as we scale manufacturing operations.
- Maintain and reconcile inventory, WIP, and COGS for manufactured products and consumable materials.
- Partner with Operations to build and maintain standard costs, track variances, and improve gross margin visibility at the product level.
- Support segment-level gross margin reporting across business lines.
Project Accounting
- Manage revenue recognition and cost tracking across construction projects using percentage-of-completion and milestone-based methods.
- Prepare and maintain project-level P&Ls; flag budget variances and margin deterioration early.
- Prepare and maintain WIP schedules — a critical deliverable for government contract compliance and surety bonding readiness.
- Coordinate with project managers and segment leads to ensure financial data reflects operational reality.
Close & Reporting
- Own the monthly close for manufacturing and project accounting workstreams — journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Prepare supporting schedules for monthly and quarterly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Contribute to audit readiness, supporting our external auditors with schedules, workpapers, and documentation.
Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Supervise and develop direct reports; assign work, review output, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Partner with FP&A on segment-level forecasting inputs, particularly hardware unit economics and project-level margin assumptions.
- Serve as the accounting point of contact for Operations and business line leaders on cost and margin questions.
Process & Systems
- Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing and project accounting workflows, controls, and reporting.
- Support ERP optimization as ICON builds toward a more automated, audit-ready financial infrastructure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years of accounting experience with direct exposure to manufacturing cost accounting, project accounting, or construction accounting.
- Prior supervisory or people management experience.
- CPA required or actively pursuing CPA licensure.
- Experience with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and/or WIP schedule preparation strongly preferred.
- Construction, manufacturing, or government contracting industry background is a plus.
- NetSuite experience preferred.
