Your Job

We’re looking for a Manager, Surety to join our growing team!

As a Surety Manager your work will have a big impact on the Surety department. People will count on you for the overall direction and management of employees. You will be responsible for leading a team of Underwriters and Specialists towards the achievement of our goals and strategic objectives. With an eye on growth and profitability, you will oversee the underwriting, business development and broker relationship functions for your team. You will report to VP, Surety.

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity based in our Mississauga or Toronto office.

  • Lead your team by coaching, mentoring and motivating them towards success.
  • Collaborate with other team leaders in the department to achieve shared goals
  • Manage team performance by conducting performance reviews and career developing discussions.
  • Approve line limits and over line bond requests within your authority level and making recommendations/approvals on larger accounts.
  • Participate in workforce planning and employee recruitment and training
  • Work with the VP, Surety and other Surety Leaders on improved processes and continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with the National Surety Solutions team on industry, underwriting and claims issues.
  • Ensure corporate objectives and policies are being achieved and maintained.
  • Manage and build strong relationships with brokers and clients through regular broker contact.

Your Skills

  • University degree or college diploma in business, accounting, finance, or economics
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant surety experience
  • Effective analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills
  • Superior organization and communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
  • Ability to make independent decisions within mandate
  • Ability to deal effectively and respectfully with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced computer skills: Word, Excel and Outlook
