Boyd Corporation (Billerica) is seeking a Purchasing Manager for our thermal cooling systems organization. This role is responsible for leading all materials-related activities to ensure the right materials are available at the right time, at the right quantity, and at the right cost to support production and business objectives. This role owns supplier coordination, procurement, and purchasing data integrity, with a strong focus on implementing and sustaining Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.

This position plays a critical role in supporting on-time delivery, improving inventory turns, and enabling scalable growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contracts, pricing and payment terms to secure the best overall value
  • Research, evaluate, and select vendors based on price, quality and reliability
  • Analyze demand patterns and forecasts, ensuring optimal inventory levels to avoid shortages and excess materials
  • Develop, implement, and maintain purchasing policies, procedures, and technology systems
  • Hire, train, and supervise purchasing staff, agents, and buyers
  • Analyze market trends, prepare reports, and review invoices for accuracy
  • Work closely with Planning and Operations management to align materials to meet the master production schedule
  • Ensure Purchasing data is up to date as key inputs to the MRP systems (lead times, PO dates, prices, qty’s etc.)
  • Work with planning to analyze and implement safety stocks where necessary.
  • Proactively identify and resolve material constraints and shortages
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, quality, and inventory effectiveness
  • Support strategic sourcing and supplier development initiatives
  • Perform Supplier Risk Assessments with Quality and Mfg Engineering as required
  • Develop, implement, and manage VMI programs with key suppliers
  • Drive lean materials management practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support cross-functional efforts with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Finance
  • Provide input to S&OP planning process from materials perspective for key commodities and growth initiatives
  • Work closely with corporate procurement to meet business performance objectives and support NPI program sourcing
  • Facilitate supplier engagements on key programs, RFP, and quality escalations as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in materials management, planning, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP systems (critical)
  • Oracle ERP experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory control systems and VMI programs
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead change

Base compensation is 100K-130K and bonus eligible.
