POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to provide ground maintenance and minor building repair maintenance for Echo Cliffs Health Center. Groundskeeper/Recycler maintains the exterior safety, cleanliness, and aesthetics of the building facility for Echo Cliffs while managing its waste diversion and recycling program. Performs ground maintenance and minor repair to maintenance building, utilities, and equipment. Prevents hazards, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the facility’s overall infection control standards

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School graduate or equivalent (GED).

Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in landscaping, commercial groundskeeping, and facilities maintenance.
  • Demonstrate through past work experience the knowledge in operations of power tools and equipment pertinent to maintenance of grounds and buildings

Other Skills and Abilities

A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

  • Positive working relationships with others
  • Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints
  • Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must be able to understand written and oral instructions from immediate supervisor or designee. Incumbent must have knowledge in operations of power tools and equipment pertinent to maintenance of grounds and buildings.
  • Must have knowledge of safe handling of fertilizers/deicers.
  • Must be able to independently determine the nature of the problem and extent of required repairs.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspects grounds, lawn, and turf areas and takes appropriate action to correct problems such as erosion, traffic damage, installing/repairing borders bare spots, weed control, etc.
  • Prune and trim shrubs, hedges, and trees to maintain neatness and prevent safety hazards.
  • Hauls debris, sand, gravel, tools, supplies and other equipment using a variety of transport vehicles.
  • Inspects and repairs pavement for spalling, cracking, depressions, scaling, buckling, and damage; gravel, cinder, dirt areas for breaks, potholes, traffic deterioration, and damage; traffic markings/signs for legibility/vandalism. Clears and drains channels, culverts, storm drains from mud, sand, weeds and debris.
  • Inspects and repairs fences, walls, metal post rails for rust, corrosion, looseness, damage, deterioration, loose paint, wood rot, insect damage, and vandalism.
  • Cleans, sweeps, and clears sidewalks to provide safe walkway for patients, visitors, employees and tenants. Checks for weeds, trash, excavations, erosion, and debris along sidewalks, fence lines, and grounds.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., in desired locations. Digs proper size hole and prepares soil for transplanting by use of water, fertilizer and various other chemicals. Sprays seeded areas, trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., with herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc., to control weed, disease, and insects. Prunes and trims trees, shrubs, hedges, etc., to proper shape and size.
  • Monitors and repair irrigation systems to ensure water conservation and prevent leaks.
  • Shovels snow from steps, sidewalks and driveways of the hospital and surrounding buildings and grounds. Applies salt or other ice control materials to steps and sidewalks to prevent accidents to the patients, employees, and public.
  • Draining; maintains culverts, lateral drains entrance pints for overflow and stoppages.
  • Trash control around the building and fenced areas. Empties, cleans, and sanitizes exterior and designated exterior receptacles.
  • Manages recycling programs, including the collection, sorting, and processing of paper, plastics, glass and cardboard.
  • Operates all hand tools and equipment pertaining to functions of ground maintenance, landscaping and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Operates and maintains street sweeper, lawn mower, utility vehicle, forklift, snow blowers, leaf blower, trimmers, weed eaters and front-end loader.
  • Operates pick-up trucks, flat-rack trucks, and dump trucks for hauling purposes and for trash and debris removal.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools as required.
  • Installs and removes outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers, and overhead banners as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces, including asphalt repairs and minor masonry or plastering work as required.
  • Assist maintenance staff with heavy lifting, furniture relocation or equipment setup as assigned.
  • Assist with maintenance items such as, wall repair, roof repair, and plumbing repair.
  • Ensure all tools, chemicals, and equipment are securely and safely stored in compliance with TCRHCC polices.
  • Reports all work activity into work order system for tracking costs associated with all work performed and close out daily maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to face mask, gloves, gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering respirator or higher (if available), and eye or face shield.
  • Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (See CDC website for most current updates).
  • Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
