Music Teacher

Purpose of Role

The British School of Geneva is seeking an outstanding Music Teacher. The successful candidate will foster academic excellence, in line with the school’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective lessons in Music for students in EYFS, Primary and Key Stage 3, ensuring clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Use a range of pedagogical approaches to engage students of varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Prepare students thoroughly for internal assessments and public examinations, maintaining high academic standards.
  • Integrate cultural and contemporary Music topics to enhance student engagement and intercultural awareness.
     

Pastoral Care and Student Welfare

  • Support the pastoral care of students, promoting their personal, social, and emotional well-being.
  • Participate in school events, trips, and extracurricular activities related to French language and culture.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a strong sense of community.
     

Professional Conduct and Development

  • Uphold the values, ethos and reputation of The British School of Geneva in all professional interactions.
  • Comply with the School’s policies on safeguarding, health and safety, equality, inclusion and professional conduct.
  • Engage actively in professional development opportunities and reflective practice.
  • Participate in the School’s Appraisal and Performance Development process.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, sharing good practice and contributing to departmental planning and review.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain open, respectful communication with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, parent-teacher meetings, professional learning sessions and other school events as required.
  • Support the School’s commitment to multilingualism, internationalism and intercultural understanding.

Contribution to School Life

  • Participate in co-curricular and enrichment activities, including extra-curricular activities, trips and events.
  • Support School initiatives, celebrations and community outreach programmes.
  • Uphold the highest standards of dress, punctuality and professionalism.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music, Music Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience teaching Music to Primary and Lower Secondary students.
  • Strong knowledge of British curriculum assessment objectives and examination requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and conduct students of varying musical abilities.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and differentiation to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • High level of fluency in English (native or near-native proficiency) and strong command of French.
  • Experience in an international or multicultural school environment is an advantage.
  • Assess and monitor student learning, musical progress, and practical coursework.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caretakers.
  • A current Work Permit to work in Switzerland.
