Job description
The Benefits HR Generalist is the primary administrator of Alto-Shaam’s benefits programs, and compliance function. This role manages relationships with all benefits of brokers (health, 401K, wellness), and ensures the organization remains compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
The ideal candidate for a Benefits HR Generalist would be able to do the following:
- Benefits Management
- Own the design, implementation, and ongoing administration of all employee benefit programs (health, dental, vision, life, disability, wellness)
- Manage relationships with all benefits brokers and vendors — health, 401K, and wellness
- Partner with brokers to analyze cost trends, conduct annual plan reviews, and evaluate market competitiveness
- Collaborate with leadership to align benefits strategy with business objectives and budget
- Oversee open enrollment planning, communication, and execution
- Manage all benefits changes including new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, and terminations
- Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations (ERISA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.)
- Own Form 5500 filing coordination and annual plan compliance audits
- Monitor 401K and pension plan compliance in partnership with plan administrator and auditors
- Stay current on regulatory changes and proactively update processes, plans, and communications
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready benefits and payroll records
- International Benefits Management and Payroll Delivery Partner
- Serve as the primary point of coordination for international HR service providers and vendors
- Manage vendor contracts, SLAs, and performance reviews in partnership with HR leadership
- Ensure international employee onboarding, offboarding, and data accuracy are maintained across systems
- Support coordination of international payroll delivery through external HR providers
- Assist in monitoring vendor agreements, SLAs, and employee data accuracy for international staff
- Partner with external benefits and payroll vendors and Finance to ensure accurate and timely international delivery
- Primary backup for end to end payroll processing
- Audit Benefits and payroll registers
EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIRED:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field
3+ years of benefits administration and payroll processing experience
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of employee benefits programs (health, retirement, wellness)
Working knowledge of payroll processing, tax withholding, and payroll compliance
Familiarity with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, Form 5500, and related regulations
Preferred
Experience managing broker relationships and conducting annual RFP/renewal processes
Knowledge of international payroll and global benefits administration
CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation
Experience with ADP, Paylocity, or similar payroll/HRIS platforms
