The Opportunity
LevitZacks is looking for a Tax Manager to join our growing team and serve as a trusted advisor to clients while helping lead the successful execution of complex tax engagements.
In this role, you'll work closely with our Partners, oversee client relationships, mentor and develop team members, and play a meaningful role in delivering tax planning and advisory services.
You'll become a core member of a collaborative team that serves a diverse and sophisticated client base, including partnerships, S corporations, business owners, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals.
LevitZacks has been part of the San Diego business community since 1964. We've been recognized as one of San Diego's Best Places to Work for multiple years, and our culture is a big reason why. We are collaborative by design, with the depth and resources to serve complex clients — without the bureaucracy that can slow down larger firms.
What You’ll Do
- Manage federal and state income tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and trusts
- Review complex tax returns and workpapers prepared by staff, seniors, and supervisors
- Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for clients and build strong, long-term relationships through responsive communication and high-quality service
- Manage engagement timelines, staffing, workflow, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of client work
- Prepare and review quarterly estimates, tax projections, and planning analyses for business owners and individuals
- Identify tax planning opportunities and collaborate with clients and firm leadership to implement effective strategies
- Research technical tax issues and provide guidance to engagement teams
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff, seniors, and supervisors through ongoing feedback and training
- Collaborate with Partners on client service initiatives, practice growth opportunities, and business development efforts
- Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations
Required Qualifications
- CPA license required
- 6–9 years of progressive public accounting tax experience
- Strong experience with individual, partnership, and S corporation taxation
- Experience with multi-state filings, business-owner tax planning, brokerage statements, and Schedule K-1s
- Strong knowledge of tax accounting principles and federal and state tax rules
- Experience managing client engagements and supervising tax professionals
- Demonstrated ability to build client relationships and manage projects with increasing independence
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- California tax experience, including PTET, FTB compliance, and apportionment matters
- Experience with CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, CCH Axcess Document, and CCH Workflow
- Experience with real estate, professional services, closely held companies, construction, technology, and high-net-worth individuals
- Master's degree in taxation or accounting
What Sets This Role Apart
- Direct access to Partners who are actively involved in client service, mentorship, and leadership development
- Meaningful client ownership and the opportunity to serve as a trusted advisor to business owners and high-net-worth individuals
- Opportunities to lead engagement teams, mentor developing professionals, and expand management responsibilities
- Exposure to sophisticated tax planning, multi-state matters, and complex business-owner issues
- A collaborative, team-first environment with a people-oriented culture, a strong commitment to work-life balance, and a focus on professional development
- A clear path forward for someone who wants to continue growing in public accounting and build toward Senior Manager and future leadership opportunities
Benefits
- Flexible PTO
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- Life and disability insurance
- Paid parking
- Generous firm holidays
- Continuing education support
- CPA license reimbursement
- Hybrid flexibility
