Tax Supervisor
Salary
Job description
The Opportunity
LevitZacks is seeking a Tax Supervisor to join our growing team and take on increasingly complex client work while serving as a key resource for both clients and team members.
In this role, you'll work closely with our Partners, oversee client relationships, mentor and develop team members, and play a meaningful role in delivering tax planning and advisory services.
You'll become a core member of a collaborative team that serves a diverse and sophisticated client base, including partnerships, S corporations, business owners, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals.
LevitZacks has been part of the San Diego business community since 1964. We've been recognized as one of San Diego's Best Places to Work for multiple years, and our culture is a big reason why. We are collaborative by design, with the depth and resources to serve complex clients — without the bureaucracy that can slow down larger firms.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and trusts
- Review work prepared by staff and seniors, providing feedback, coaching, and technical guidance
- Work directly with clients to gather and evaluate tax information needed to prepare accurate returns
- Prepare and review quarterly estimates and tax projections for business owners and individuals
- Communicate directly with clients regarding return preparation, open items, estimates, planning opportunities, and other tax matters
- Assist managers and partners with tax planning projects and identify opportunities to add value for clients
- Research technical tax issues and document conclusions
- Help manage engagement timelines, workflow, and deadlines across multiple client engagements
- Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations
- Collaborate closely with managers, partners, and other team members across engagements
Required Qualifications
- CPA license or actively pursuing licensure
- 4–7 years of public accounting tax experience
- Experience preparing and reviewing individual, partnership, and S corporation tax returns
- Experience with multi-state filings, brokerage statements, and Schedule K-1s
- Strong knowledge of tax accounting principles and federal and state tax rules
- Demonstrated ability to review work, provide feedback, and support the development of less experienced team members
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and bring thoughtful solutions to the table
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence communicating directly with clients
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- California tax experience, including PTET and related state tax matters
- Experience with CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, CCH Axcess Document, and CCH Workflow
- Experience with real estate, professional services, closely held companies, construction, technology, and high-net-worth individuals
- Master's degree in taxation or accounting
What Sets This Role Apart
- Direct training, coaching, and mentorship from Partners and Managers who are actively involved in your development
- Meaningful client responsibility, including regular interaction with business owners, high-net-worth individuals, and key decision-makers
- Opportunities to develop leadership skills through review responsibilities, mentoring, and engagement management
- Exposure to a broad range of tax matters, including business-owner planning, multi-state returns, and increasingly complex client situations
- A collaborative, team-first environment with a people-oriented culture, a strong commitment to work-life balance, and a focus on professional development
- A clear path forward for someone who wants to continue growing in public accounting and take on increasing client and leadership responsibilities over time
Benefits
- Flexible PTO
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- Life and disability insurance
- Paid parking
- Generous firm holidays
- Continuing education support
- CPA license reimbursement
- Hybrid flexibility
