English in Practice Facilitator
Position Overview:
The English in Practice Program at the African Leadership College of Higher Education (ALCHE) is designed to provide non-native English speakers with the necessary skills to enhance their proficiency in English. The program's aim is to empower individuals by improving their ability to communicate effectively in a globalised world. The English in Practice Facilitator will play a key role in delivering the program and supporting students throughout their learning journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the delivery of each of the 30 online English Immersion Program sessions over each 9-week program duration
- Conduct regular Office Hours with Online English in Practice participants to further mentor them and support their language acquisition
- Weekly meetings with the English in Practice Team/Academic Student Success Lead
- Assisting with building the English in Practice Program resource bank
- Collecting, analysing and documenting data (student attendance and engagement etc.)
- Administering and monitoring the English in Practice Program deliverables on the LMS (Canvas)
- Maintaining the confidentiality of information pertaining to the English proficiency of students
- Acting as a role model and representing ALCHE values and ethical standards.
- Participation in brainstorming sessions to improve engagement and impact
Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a Bachelor’s Degree in another field with an additional qualification specialising in teaching English as a Second/Foreign language (Eg. TEFL; ESL)
- Proven high level of English proficiency
- No history of behavioural incidents or breach of academic integrity
- Experience in English language instruction
- Excellent time management
- Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity, and the confidence to adopt an experimental, iterative approach, finding new and creative ways to address student support needs.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once,
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Tech savviness: ability to quickly learn to use new technologies, software and tools
- Experience with interacting with the Learning Management System, Canvas
