Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to ensure that all local businesses conduct their activities in line with ABB trade policies and guidelines. Each day, you will drive and coordinate the local implementation of ABB’s Global Trade Program as part of the fiduciary duties under the lead business in a country, cluster, region, or regional execution organization. You will also showcase your expertise by overseeing compliance with all applicable customs, sanctions, and export control regulations, as well as by providing training to the respective country, cluster, region, or regional execution organization. This role can be located in Helsinki (Pitäjänmäki) or in Vaasa.

You will be mainly accountable for

Serving as a single point of contact for local (national) trade compliance authorities and country management in handling trade compliance relating to ABB (deemed) exports, cross-border shipments, customers, or vendors, in case of a country-level role.

Ensuring the creation, documentation, and maintenance of trade compliance standards and procedures for all local businesses.

Securing seamless connection between overall trade compliance and day-to-day operations, including master data requirements, supplier qualifications, etc., in collaboration with staff in related domains.

Overseeing trade-related archiving requirements and ensuring that trade compliance records are kept and retrievable, as defined in the relevant instructions and regulations at local and global levels.

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of ABB’s Global Trade Program in Finland and across the Nordic cluster, ensuring alignment with applicable legal and regulatory requirements as well as ABB internal policies and governance standards.

Act as a trusted advisor to Country Management, local business, the local trade community, and relevant functional stakeholders on customs, export controls, sanctions, and related trade compliance matters.

Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of trade compliance processes, controls, and monitoring mechanisms to support effective risk management and operational compliance across the country and cluster.

Partner closely with local Business Partners, operational teams, and Local Trade Professionals to ensure that trade compliance requirements are effectively embedded into day-to-day business activities and decision-making.

Lead the local Trade Compliance community through guidance, coaching, and capability building, fostering consistency, accountability, and sound judgment in the application of ABB trade compliance requirements.

Monitor key risk areas, compliance trends, and remediation actions, and provide regular updates and practical recommendations to Country Management and Global Trade Team.

Develop and deliver trade compliance training and awareness initiatives to relevant stakeholders, strengthening compliance culture and supporting effective ownership of trade compliance responsibilities across the organization.

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Trade, Law, Supply Chain, Economics, or a related field.

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in trade compliance, with strong expertise in at least one of the following areas: customs, export controls, or sanctions, and sound working knowledge of the others.

Solid understanding of trade compliance governance, internal controls, and risk assessment in an international business environment.

Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical, and risk-based advice on complex regulatory and operational matters to business and functional stakeholders.

Broad exposure to key trade compliance topics, including tariff classification, origin, free trade agreements, customs procedures, export controls, and sanctions, including U.S. export control and sanctions framework.

Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring trade compliance processes, controls, and compliance improvement measures.

Strong stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and organizational levels.

High level of integrity, sound judgment, and a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach.
