Your Responsibilities •

Research, develop, and productionise ML models for distributed energy systems — household-level and portfolio-level forecasting of load, generation, and market dynamics at a scale of 100k+

Design, calibrate, and backtest probabilistic time-series models that feed dispatch and trading decisions in real-time production

Establish MLOps practices to monitor production forecasts for drift, bias, and calibration quality as well as their downstream impact

Identify opportunities to improve forecast quality and the downstream impact of forecasts on dispatch and trading outcomes

Deliver and monitor high-quality ML solutions while promoting engineering best practices and a data-driven culture.

Contribute to the data science roadmap and help shape the next generation of algorithms

Identify new market opportunities and residential flexibility value to shape the data science roadmap and next-gen algorithms

Opportunity to guide and develop more junior colleagues through design review, code review, and structured feedback

Be part of a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and other teams across Flexa's partner ecosystem

Your Profile Mandatory Requirements

University degree in a data-driven or analytical field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or similar quantitative discipline)

5+ years industry experience in applied data science, with significant time spent in time-series machine learning or applied forecasting (energy domain a strong plus, not strict)

Hands-on experience with large volumes of time-series data, ideally in streaming settings

Strong grasp of probabilistic forecasting, calibration, and backtesting methodology

Proficiency in Python and software engineering practices: testing, code quality, code review, CI/CD, monitoring, and modular code design

Experience taking models beyond the notebook: from experimentation and validation through to scalable, monitored production deployment

Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills

Cross-functional collaboration mindset across data scientists, software engineers, and partner-company stakeholders

Independent research experience, excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team environment are essential.

Skills to Set You Apart

Work experience in energy or power markets — load, generation, or price forecasting

Big-data tooling: Spark, Dask, and ML pipelines handling large volumes of data

Experience standing up a forecasting capability from scratch in a production environment

A Short Note from Your Future Lead Sébastien Schikora - Chief Technology Officer Hi there! I'm Sebastien Schikora, serving as the CTO at Flexa since the beginning. My diverse career journey has provided me with a range of experiences with a deep dive in the energy industry and the functioning of the grid specifically. In the last years, I was:

  • CTO at KONUX from September 2018 to April 2022, where I played a pivotal role in shaping the company's tech landscape and products.
  • Sr. Manager at Tesla from November 2015 to July 2018, leading the development of energy storage systems and mobile apps.
  • Vice President of Product Development at Networked Energy Services (NES) Corporation from October 2014 to November 2015, launching a new company and product line in the grid digitalization space.
  • At Echelon Corporation, I held various roles over six years, including Director of Product Management and Development in the Grid Modernization Division.
  • Before my endeavors in the Energy Industry I was working for Hewlett Packard in the Enterprise Software group for a little over 10 years. I'm all about pushing the boundaries of technology and driving progress in our industry. I spent the majority of my career in the Silicon Valley in California and apply a lot of the methods and drive to my workplace here in Munich. Our team is the basis of our success, and I'm dedicated to fostering a collaborative, innovative and goal driven work environment. If you're ready to be a part of our international crew and share our vision for groundbreaking tech solutions, I encourage you to explore opportunities within our organization. Thanks for considering joining us, and I look forward to the possibility of working together to achieve remarkable things. Best regards, Sebastien Schikora
