TRC is seeking a highly motivatedSenior Transportation/Electrical Engineerfor our growing team in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate must be passionate about construction management and electrical engineering and enjoy working with a talented team of designers, engineers, project managers, and other technical staff in preparing designs for electrical, instrumentation and controls, and SCADA systems for water, wastewater and other industrial projects for a variety of great clients. The Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Infrastructure Engineering Practice Leader and be responsible for electrical construction management services during construction for assigned projects.

Job Duties

  • Caltrans Electrical/Civil Inspector
  • Serve as the Electrical Engineer of Record (EOR) on assigned projects and prepare detailed design drawings, specifications and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform field investigations at the project site, when required, to obtain relevant information required to confirm the completion of assigned projects.
  • Experienced with Caltrans Construction projects including communication equipment, CCTV Surveillance Systems, Video Detection systems, Fiber Optic Cable Communications systems, Changeable Message Signs, Microwave Vehicle Detection systems, Traffic monitoring and Ramp metering stations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of applicable codes and industry standards including NFPA, IEEE and ISA.
  • Performs, or assists in performing electrical or electronic design, and electrical construction and maintenance inspections, specification preparation and estimating for highway systems, such as traffic management, signal and lighting and transportation-related facilities (such as moveable bridges, drainage pumping plants, vehicular tunnels, safety roadside rest areas, maintenance stations, truck weigh and inspection stations, and toll plazas), and associated electrical and electronic systems (such as cathodic and stray current protection, power and power distribution, indoor and outdoor lighting, aids to navigation, and other traffic management and facilities-related electrical and electronic systems) using state-of-the art technology,( i.e., Computer Aided Drafting/Designing (CADD) ) and personal computers.
  • Accurately interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and specifications
  • Read and understand highway plans, drawings and field data which related to transportation and traffic management-related electrical and electronic systems and installations.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed by examination with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple jurisdictions/states.
  • 8+ years of experience in construction management review of low voltage electrical power distribution systems for industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental electrical engineering concepts including conductor selection and sizing, overcurrent protection, voltage drop, load flow and short circuit analysis and application of applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Experience commissioning motor controls for industrial applications.
  • Experience preparing conduit and cable schedules for electrical projects.
  • Experience working with CAD production staff in developing construction drawings.
  • Ability to coordinate and work efficiently with other team discipline engineers including Civil, Mechanical, Process and Structural.
  • Experience selecting and specifying low voltage power distribution equipment including automatic transfer switches, switchboards, switchgear, motor control centers and panelboards.
  • Specific experience in the municipal water and wastewater industries.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and advance technical expertise.

Compensation

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $75,000-$185,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
